Cantor Gordon Piltch came to Beth El in September 2007 to serve as our full-time cantor.
Prior to coming to Norfolk, Cantor Piltch was in the Riverdale section of the Bronx in New York City. He served the Conservative Synagogue Adath Israel of Riverdale (just seven miles north of the Jewish Theological Seminary) for twenty-eight years as Hazzan. For a fresh start and new challenges in 5768, Cantor Piltch "came down South" to Beth El.
Cantor Piltch's wife, Idit, was born in Haifa, Israel, a fifth generation Israeli. Idit has spent most of her life studying Hebrew and developing methods of teaching Hebrew to ensure the future of Leshon Hakkodesh, the Holy Tongue, language of the Bible, the Rabbis, and the modern State of Israel. She is among the finest Hebrew teachers in North America, which she demonstrated as an long-time instructor at the Jewish Theological Seminary.
Cantor Gordon and Idit Piltch are blessed with two daughters: Talya and Noga. Talya is married to Eric Goldsmith and they have a wonderful toddler named Boaz. Noga is working as a paralegal in a major international law firm and is in the process of applying to law school. They all live in New York City, which their parents/grandparents wish was not so far from Norfolk.
