Cerritos observes November holidays

October 24, 2014

Cerritos City Hall, Cerritos Library, Cerritos Senior Center at Pat Nixon Park and the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts will be closed on Tuesday, November 11 for Veterans Day. City parks and recreation facilities will be open regular hours. Cerritos Library will close at 5 p.m. on Monday, November 10.

In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the Cerritos Library and the Cerritos Senior Center at Pat Nixon Park will close at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, November 26. The Cerritos Sports Complex and community gymnasiums will be open regular hours on Wednesday, November 26, and the following facilities will be open with modified hours: the Golf course will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Adult Lap Swim will be held from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Recreational Swim will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and the Community Centers will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Also in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the following City facilities will be closed on Thursday, November 27: City Hall, the Cerritos Senior Center at Pat Nixon Park, Cerritos Library, the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA), all Community Centers, the Community Gymnasiums at Cerritos and Whitney High Schools, the Cerritos Olympic Swim and Fitness Center and the Cerritos Sports Complex.

On Thursday, November 27, Cerritos Iron-Wood Nine Golf Course will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Cerritos Sheriff's Station will remain open, but the Community Safety Division will be closed on Thursday, November 27 and Friday, November 28.

City Hall, Cerritos Library and Cerritos Senior Center will remain closed on Friday, November 28; however, all park facilities will be open normal hours. The CCPA Ticket Office will be open from noon to 8:15 p.m.

There will be no trash pick-up or street sweeping on Thanksgiving. Thursday and Friday schedules will be delayed by one day for the remainder of the week. There will be no enforcement of the street sweeping parking restriction from Saturday, November 22 through Sunday, November 30. There will also be no Cerritos on Wheels (COW) service available on Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving.

Scholarship Requirements:

Essay Writing

· Complete one essay (<700 words) at Whitney MAC Lab on Friday, November 14, 2014 from 3:15pm-5:30pm. You are required to arrive no later than 3:30pm, NO EXCEPTIONS.

· Topic will be given onsite on November 14 and all participants will hand-write your essay during the hours provided.

· Top 10 essays will be selected by readers and notified by the end of November


· Approximately 20 minute interview to be conducted at Whitney MPR on Monday, December 15, 2014 between 3:30pm – 7:30pm.

· Scholarship award placement will be based on the interview. Note, questions will not be provided ahead of time.

The Foundation Scholarship Committee will announce the winners by January 2015.

Scholarship recipients will be acknowledged at the Senior Recognition Night in June 2015. or
