Elevation measurements from our Garmin GPS watch. Runners begin and end in the transition area near the campground and festivities area. After a quarter-mile of open field running, runners begin the toughest portion of the course: a long, gradual climb on singletrack trails. Cresting the ridge about a mile later, runners begin a mile-long gradual descent down dirt and gravel roads to the flat open meadows surrounding Lake Eden, where they skirt the edge of the pristine spring-fed lake for a half-mile. Rounding the lake, runners glide through more flat-to-gently-rolling open meadows and farmland for another mile. Near the end of the loop, runners climb a gravel road for about a quarter-mile, circle another mountain meadow with breathtaking views, and then descend back down to the transition area. Mileage Description 0 - 0.5 Flat open field 0.5 - 1.75 Steep singletrack trail 1.75 - 3.0 Descending dirt and gravel roads 3.0 - 3.5 Flat meadows and trails along lake 3.5 - 4.0 Gently rolling meadows and trails 4.0 - 4.25 Gradual climb along gravel road 4.25 - 4.75 Rolling and gradual descent along gravel road 4.75 - 5.0 Return to transition area

PR!!! This is my bib, my GPS watch and my headphones from my 5k race today. Let me preface this by saying that I am not a long distance runner by any stretch of the imagination. I was a sprinter in high school and college, so running anything longer than 400m is a challenge for me. I first ran this race 2 years ago and it took me 33 minutes. For you mathletes that's an 11 minute mile. The race is very hilly though and certainly not the easiest 5k out there. Last year, I had a goal of breaking 30 minutes and I missed it by about 15 seconds. I continued running last year and broke 28 on my last race of the season. This year, I wanted to break 29 on this race. I wasn't sure if I could do it because it is so hilly. But, I turned up the Speedwagon (Keep Pushin it!) and Iron Maiden (Run To the hills!) and ended up finishing in 28.04!!! By far a PR for me in this race. I would have broken 28 had I not slowed down at the water stop. Anyway, I'm very please with my race today and I hope that by the end of the summer I'll be somewhere in the 25-26 range - not too shabby for a 35yr old sprinter with asthma! :)
