Grand Timber Lodge
It's that time of year again, when we The Hoyt Family head on up to Breckenridge, CO for the week. We get away to our timeshare and take time out to celebrate Marna's birthday and enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday. We packed the truck full of kitchenware, clothes and Paige’s toys and made the 1.5 hour commute Saturday afternoon. Check-in was at 4 PM and after unpacking, we spent the rest of the first night just settling into our room. Since we’re all still sick, we weren’t sure what we would do today. We knew we had to go grocery shopping (the room has a full kitchen), but other than that we just wanted to take it easy and try to get healthy. After a little lunch we decided to spend some time at one of the pools (heated). Paige loves the water, and swimming, and it’s a great way to wear her out for her afternoon nap. After Paige’s nap, Marna set to making a gourmet dinner of Chicken Cordon Bleu, which she picked up from Claire on our trip to Newport Coast earlier in the year. Paige and I spent some time at the arcade in the meantime. After dinner we played with dolls, watches the Wiggles and set Paige down to bed. Coincidentally, she’s not taking very well to having her own room this time. We’re hoping that changes as the week goes on. I’m usually the one to put Paige to bed when I’m home. After two failed attempts however, Marna took a shot. In the meantime, I slipped out from some night photography. I’m relatively new to night photography, and hecklers aside I got a couple shots I liked. Note to self that when it’s below freezing, I should bring some gloves because my metal tripod becomes shear agony to touch.365 Days -- Attempt #2 -- Day 3 -- Me and My Mac, A Backlit Keyboard Portrait.
The last time I did 365 Days, this type of shot proved popular. This was a long exposure with the only light being produced by the backlight keyboard and display of my MacBook Pro. I wiggled my fingers during the exposure to give the ghosting effect, hoping that it would look a bit like I was typing. To set up the shot, I put my machine on the floor in my hallway and put my tripod over it, looking straight down. I had to lay on the floor to get my hands in position. For you Mac nerds, that's a Unibody MacBook Pro, my newest toy....
