Who Still Uses Exchanges? - Diabetes 365 Day 116 - January 29, 2008
They put all sorts of things into the Tour Times newsletter that I get from the ADA in FL in preparation for the Tour de Cure that I'm participating in on Feb 24th. There was a recipe for Whole Wheat Pancakes which really excited me because they're one of my favorite breakfast foods but I rarely get them. I was thrown for a loop though when I saw that there was no nutritional information, there were only exchanges listed. Now, I can't ever remember a time where I used the exchanges and I've had diabetes almost 16 years now. For as long as I can remember, carb counting has been the thing. I vaguely remember something about calories when I got diabetes but it's been so long that carb counting is all I know. I did go to the ADA website and found the recipe there, and it did list other nutrition information: Amount per serving Calories 194 Calories From Fat 42 Total Fat 5 g Saturated Fat 1 g Cholestrol 72 mg Sodium 516 mg Total Carbohydrate 31 g Dietary Fiber 4 g Sugars 6 g Protein 9 g Does anybody use exchanges anymore when determining how much insulin they're going to take for a meal?

A 5?-foot cube of foliage on display represents how much plant matter—approximately 1,000 pounds—a Mamenchisaurus ate in a single day. To survive, a Mamenchisaurus needed 100,000 calories a day, which it got from a leafy diet of horsetail, ginkgo, conifers, and ferns. In contrast, the average adult human male needs just 2,200 calories per day.
