Grahams Coaches - a non identical twin.
Before moving on to Volvo coaches for new purchases, Graham Durber bought two late consecutively registered Leyland Leopards, VVT 576 & 577X. Other than they were both equipped with the recently introduced ZF 6 speed manual gearbox instead of the more usual 5 speed semi auto, that's where the similarities ended. 576X was a 12 metre (40ft) Plaxton Supreme IV, whilst 577X seen here was an 11 metre (36ft) Plaxton Supreme V. After experiencing quite some trouble with the Austrian built F&M fuel injection pumps then being fitted by Leyland, Graham had the pair converted back to older specification DPA rotary / distributor types. Whilst 577 was somewhat more nimble, I always found 576 to be the more pleasant overall driving experience. The picture was taken outside Clough Hall Sports Centre and Swimming Pool, Kidsgrove when Graham's held the contract for local school transport to the latter. The school itself was where 'Berresfordsmotors' and I first made each others acquaintance and occasionally received a general education in between discussing all things buses.
