Day 182 - Best time
Day 182 - Best time
Ever since I started teaching English in El Progreso, I have been timing myself on the hike back at the end of the day. Some days I walk with the other teachers, but usually I finish my classes before them. I hike on the road for the first three kilometers, then take a short cut through a cornfield and over a hill. Overall, it's a five kilometer hike, with the ending point (my house) 430 meters higher than the starting point (the school). The first time I made the hike, it took me about 50 minutes. Today, you can see that I've now beaten that time by six minutes, my best so far. On days that I don't hike to El Progreso, I go running in the morning. My route is straight up the hill that leads out of Torola. It is a 1.8 kilometer run with a 250 meter elevation change. My best time so far is 19 minutes, which is slow, but you try running straight up a hill for almost two kilometers. I usually end up hiking or running about 50 kilometers by the end of each week. On really intense days, I find that I can hardly eat enough food to keep myself from feeling hungry. But don't worry, I eat mountains of oatmeal in the morning for carbohydrates and fiber, and beans, rice, and eggs for protein. And lots of tropical fruits and vegetables that probably have vitamins we don't even know are good for us.
Hey, watch where you're pointing that thing!
Hey, watch where you're pointing that thing!
I think this little guy noticed me pointing a giant lens at him; we had an intense staring contest. The 200mm f/2 is pretty huge looking with it's lens hood, even though it's not very long. Never interrupt a prairie dog while he's eating--look at those vicious teeth! On a side note, does this photo look underexposed to you? On my iMac, it's perfect, but it looks rather dark on my PC at work. I realize the two systems have different default gamma curves. Any thoughts how best to expose photos for all systems? (Maybe there's no solution?) Make sure to press 'L' and view large! Comments are always appreciated =)
