The Inscrutably Chinese Church: How Narratives and Nationalism Continue to Divide Christianity
The first half of the twenty-first century promises to be a time of great change for the Christian church in the PeopleOs Republic of China. The situation is complex and fluid, and the information gap between those on the inside and those outside of China is still significant, though shrinking. The OInscrutably ChineseO Church moves readers nearer to the Chinese Christian experience, as Nathan Faries helps foreign readers to see with greater clarity just how Chinese Christians view their government and themselves in relation to those ruling powers. There still exists a measure of inscrutability about China and its complex relationship with religion that must be explained to the outsider. It is this gap in understanding_between insider points of view within China and those outsiders seeking knowledge about the Christian faith in China_that Faries seeks to close.
Say hello to a sleepy Amelia...
...who arrived yesterday as we were leaving the house. She had hoped to get some awesome sunset pictures today, but we have continued to have lots of rain! (also, we have been gone most of today too. It has been a busy weekend!) Now, she is ready for bed. She had a flight from Portland, where she was staying with Rhubs Knit...Barbara. She saw so many wonderful sights there! AND she was at BlytheCon! Barbara introduced me to her there. I am so happy to have the gorgeous Amelia visiting with us for a while! My girls cannot wait to share adventures with her. Thanks so much to GBaby for customizing this beautiful Traveling Dolly! Amelia is sleepy now and ready for bed! We will show all of her gifts soon! She has many! She says hello and sends hugs to all of the wonderful people she has visited so far! She told me that she misses you ALL! She also sends hugs to GBaby...Gina!

As in previous volumes, Kamii uses Piaget's groundbreaking work in constructivism as well as her own years of research in classrooms to closely observe what third grade children actually "do" when solving problems of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Her work translates Piaget's theory into a concrete programme that encourages children to use maths in real ways that stimulate them to reinvent arithmetic. She also challenges "quick-fix" theories of educational reform, replacing these with one that revolutionises our understanding of how human beings acquire knowledge, and thus drastically changing what we think schools should try to do. Educators have long been trying to transmit knowledge to children from the outside. What reform needs is a focus inside the child to maximise the process of construction from within. The volume is divided into four parts. The first gives a theoretical foundation, the second, goals and objectives, the third consists of chapters on problem solving, group games and other activities. The final part presents principles of teaching and answers frequently asked questions. The last chapter is about the evaluation of constructivist teaching and documents how children with three years of constructivist maths were able to reason far better than traditionally instructed children.
