Lorell Executive High-Back Chair,Mesh Fabric,28-1/2"x28-1/2"x45,BK

I ordered this last Thursday night with free super saver shipping and received it today (Tuesday). It took about 10-15 minutes to put together and required no tools other than the Allen wrench that came with it. I noticed the difference between this and my old chair right away. Seat height, seat tilt, back tilt, arm height, and arm width are all adjustable. By lowering the padded arm rests all the way I was able to raise the seat to it's maximum height (which is higher than my old chair) and still slide up close to my desk, which my knees will thank me for. The arms can also be removed if the user wishes. On my old chair the back and seat angle could not be adjusted; all you could do was fix the chair so that it didn't rock (in which case it felt too rigid) or set it to lean back with you (which felt better but didn't provide enough support). On this chair you can adjust the angle of the back and it stays fixed, but because the mesh has some give it provides support without feeling too rigid. One thing this chair does have in common with my old chair (and most computer chairs) is a polyurethane foam cushion, which feels great now, but on my old chair the cushion lost it's support after several years and left me with aching legs. I presume the same thing will eventually happen with this chair, but as long as I get at least 3 or 4 good years out of it I won't mind ordering another one, as it feels great to sit in and I am very happy with it now. Highly recommended if you spend a fair amount of time sitting in front of a desk or computer.

Boss Black LeatherPlus Executive Chair

Before I consider the chair itself please permit a few words about customer service and packing.
Packing: The chair arrived in a heavy duty box that had several gorillas handling it along the way. In spite of their rough handling as evidenced by the interior cardboard damages the chair was fully protected by its wrapping and therefore no issues. How nice it is to open a box and find a fully perfect product.
Customer Service: We often encounter a customer service rep who has had a bad day or just does not care or any of the negative phrases that make us some reps. This is absolutely NOT the case with the folks at BOSS. After opening the box and putting it together (a feat accomplished by anyone who can lift a sack of potatoes) I could not get the gas cylinder to raise the seat level. One of us is 5'6" and the other is 6'3" and the seat is either too high or too low unless the gas cylinder works. It did not. It was too late to call and it was Thanksgiving eve. Even if anyone had been home I would have waited until Frantic Friday to call. So I emailed my concern and expected no reply until today or maybe tomorrow. On Friday, the 26th, the height adjustment absence was just too much to endure. A call was placed to BOSS and a woman told me exactly what to do and I did. Closed case. Wow! I did suggest that the instructions would benefit from her advice in future iterations. Regardless, my problem was settled in seconds and when I finally got to reviewing my email I saw a response from BOSS saying the same thing. Let's all give a big shout to BOSS for fantastic service.
The Chair itself: I was not prepared for the comfort and wow appeal of this chair. After spending many hours in the old desk chair and literally wearing it out in one of the weak points of the mechanism I had to buy a new one and chose the perfect chair for our use. The soft arm rests make getting up and down easier than the old one with hard rests. The seat is firm enough to hold a chuncky old man and a much lighter youngun spouse. The lumbar support fits the small of the back perfectly and adds sufficient support to make long sits easier. The seat goes up and down with ease and makes designing the perfect height easy to do. The testing of duration will take place over what will, with hope, take years in the same manner as the old one. It would delight me to revisit this chair 10 years from now explaining that the seat finally gave way or the mechanism just gave out from all the weight or whatever. By then chairs will be an anachronism of the first order because it's been rumored that we will be sitting on air. Right! I am so glad we bought this chair and would do it again in a nanosecond. Thanks BOSS!

Alera Fraze Executive High-Back Swivel/Tilt Leather Chair

First of all, I dont think there is a better value on Amazon right now than this chair in the 125-140 range. It is well made and comfortable with the basic options of swivel, height adjust, tilt (the whole chair, not the back) and tilt lock. The control on the side is easy to use and the range of height is great for me (6'3") and my wife and kids (5'6"+). The chair is also fairly wide, it will easily fit a person who exceeds the recommended weight limits. What I mean is, if you weigh 300+ pounds, you can fit in this chair, but the chair isn't made to support that much weight. The Leather-ish stuff is comfortable and appears durable enough. The arms are perfectly positioned for me. I expect this chair to last a long time because of how well its made.
Now to a couple problems. First of all the back tilts back a bit too much in relation to the seat. This is not adjustable. Tension of the tilting action for the whole seat is adjustable, but there is no way to change the alignment of the seat to the back as they are bolted together with the arms. So while this chair is extremely comfortable while sitting watching TV, etc. it is not the best for sitting at a desk typing (like I am doing right now). I am ok with this, my wife can't stand it at all. It seems like this is more of a chair you would sit at in a meeting than one you are going to constantly be working at a desk with.
Another thing to know is that this chair isn't the easiest to assemble. Personally I dont think this is a major issue because you only have to do this once, however it is worth noting. Leaving all the bolts loose until you get everything threaded is a good start, but you will have to use some brute force to align all the holes, and some finesse because the lether-ish stuff will try and get in the way. Directions are acceptable, and there are even a couple extra parts plus the only tool you need is included. It took me about 45 minutes to put it together and I have assembled a lot of different products.
One other thing to note is that if you have any sensitivity to chemical smells... well this thing reeks from the manufacturing process. I have never had anything like this smell so strongly of chemicals. We stuck it outside in the sunshine two days before it faded enough to be able to bring it into the house. You know that new car smell? Think about that x100 and you get the idea. Once again, this isn't a major issue for most people because it does fade to acceptable levels withing a couple days. I will be glad when it is totally aired out though!
Its not perfect, but you will have to pay a lot more to get one thats better. It arrived within the Amazon delivery window, about a week and half after I ordered it and was well packaged.

Flash Furniture Mid-Back Black Leather Office Chair with Nylon Arms

I've been making do with a folding chair for the past couple years, but it was killing my back. This chair was exactly what I needed. It was easy to put together and is very comfortable and sturdy to sit in. My only concern was that, when I put the final piece together, it seemed as though the lift function wasn't working. As soon as I sat in it, to see if I was okay with the height I thought it was going to be stuck at, I discovered that the lift worked after all. I wonder if it needs the weight of a body to activate it? At any rate, although it's only been a few days, I am very happy with this chair and look forward to years of doing work from it.
