I thought I'd put a contemporary spin on this week's Strobist Sundays theme, "film noir" and the Tech Guy theme "busy". For a little fun, see how many references to hackers and hacker culture you can identify without looking at the notes I've attached to the image. Aside from the black and white conversion and a small crop, this photograph is straight out of the camera. I used a two-step approach to compose the image. First, I concentrated on getting good exposure on the compurter screen. I turned off the room lights to eliminate all reflections off the iMac's nortoriously high-gloss screen. Holding my aperture fixed, I adjusted my shutter speed and ISO until the screen exposed well. Next I worked on lighting myself. I sat in front of the computer with the screen at a slight angle, so that I could see my camera on its tripod behind me reflected in the screen. I positioned a snooted SB-600 to camera right pointed at my face and a white card to camera left. As it turned out, stray light from the flash bouncing off the walls provided sufficient illumination for the Mac and tthe background, so I didn't need a second flash. See the comments for a lighting diagram.

I have the field-scope III, the second scope on the chart And you need the eyepiece FSA-L1 You take your lens off your D-3000 you attach the FSA-L1 like a lens You take the field scope eyepiece off You slide the other end of the FSA-L1 into the field-scope You need to have the BEST tripod possible since this is a heavy combination. You have to have NO play (movement) in the camera setup I hope this helps Let me know if I can tell you anything else Oh yes the first field-scope EGD is even MORE expensive than the field-scope III But I am sure Nikon would like to see you one anyway. DO not purchase the Nikon pro-staff spotting scope since it will NOT work for digiscoping even if Nikon tells it it will. I know, I bought it after Nikon told me it would work BUT it does not!!!- Its a nice spotting scope but can not be used to digiscope. Lemayrenee
