The VZ-1Shooter is designed specifically for the popular "prosumer" camcorders which are smaller than traditional shoulder-mount cameras, including the Sony VX-2000, DSR-200, TRV-900; and Canon's GL1 & GL2.The VZ-1Shooter insures a stable shooting platform by resting easily on your shoulder, keeping most of the weight of the camera off your arm. The VZ-1Shooter simply adjusts to fit your body. Bend it and forget it!Attach your camcorder to the shoulder brace camera platform using the camera's tripod mounting receiver with the included knurled screw. Position the camera platform (forward, back, up or down) so that the viewfinder or LCD monitor meets the eye comfortably.

VariZoom's most affordable shoulder brace, the VZ-1Shooter provides a stable shooting platform for small to medium cameras. Every year, right before Christmas, our church has a pagaent staring the children that attend the private school that the church runs, and we always videotape it. This isn't some mom and pop prosumer gear type show. Each of the cameras are broadcast quality, feeding into a super expensive switcher and being recorded onto uncompressed digital tape. The audio component is recorded seperately into a ProTools HD system, and then mastered down and re-integrated into the video before being put onto DVD. Tonight we had four cameras, two manned, and two wide shots (since our usual camera ops were busy across the street videotaping the choral program going on at the high school). My expression matches how I was feeling at the time, because on the drive down to Cupertino, I got rear-ended on the freeway when the driver behind me failed to stop after the rest of the traffic around us did. Luckily, the damage to my car seems minimal, the instigator's car however having taken a fair degree more punishment. It would seem that when he collided with me, his car dove under my rear bumper and scrunched the spare tire compartment under my trunk, and his hood was totally jacked. Both of his headlights were shattered, and his radiator faired none too well, either. Right after the crash, there was a very foul stench in the air from the coolant that had been burst all over his engine block, and luckily he was able to pull his car out of the lane and into the shoulder on the side so we could exchange info. It wouldn't be a big surprise if his car is considered totalled by whoever does his claim adjustment. I was not pleased at all, which I felt was reasonable, but since his insurance will cover the damage, and I wasn't injured in the crash (at least, for the moment I'm not feeling anything major wrong), it's not as bad as it might have been. Had he been going even ten miles an hour faster, I probably would have been worse off, so I totally lucked out this time. Still an annoyance to say the least. But at least I was calm and professional about it, instead of shouting and creating a scene. Maybe there is some hope for me and my onry temper after all...
There were true wide-screen anamorphics on some prosumer video cameras for several years before there were wide-screen viewfinders. This was taken many Christmases ago, for a sequence of Christmas presents, with a Canon XM1 in widescreen mode. The picture on the left shows what it looks like in the viewfinder. Some people might find the squashing effect disconcerting, but I had done a fair amount of anamorphic work on film, so it never bothered me.
