Kinesis Racelight Granfondo Ti Frameset Save 20%

posted 10 Sep 2012, 00:40 by paitoon dettis

Save 20% Click to view Prices

Features:
  • Ti3AL/2.5V: An aerospace grade alloy, 94% titanium, 3% aluminium and 2.5% vanadium. This is one of the strongest alloys of titanium available in a seamless tube form.
  • The down tube is bi-ovalised where it meets the BB and headtube, the top tube is vertically ovalised at Headtube for stiffness in these key areas.
  • The integrated headtube uses a larger diameter, thinwall tube, this gives more weld area and works perfectly with the excellent DC21 fork (included).
  • Welds at highly stressed areas like the head tube and BB are 'double pass', this ensures proper weld penetration and a decent fillet is always achieved.
  • The curved seat stays use a 2m radius, this provides silky smooth comfort over long distances.
  • Deep section chain stays are set wide apart at the BB for stability, Kinesis use ‘Bullet’ ends to finish them off perfectly.
  • All eyelets are welded, not riveted, so they will never come loose.
  • There is a ‘chain keeper’ on the RHS seat stay to neatly hold the chain when the wheel is out.
  • The frame provides clearance for 23mm tyres (depending on brand) when using full size mudguards.
  • Geometry is set for standard reach (39-49mm) calipers, this gives far more choice of high end componentry.
  • Tough 7mm dropouts are double-eyeletted to easily accommodate rack and mudguard stays and Kinesis' own brake bridge gives maximum tyre clearance.
  • Seat Post Size: 31.6mm.
  • Front Derailleur Type: 34.9mm band-on.
  • Headset Type: Integrated 1-1/8" 36/45 degree bearings.
  • Bottom Bracket Type: 68mm BSA.
  • Colour: Hand brushed finish with heat cured decals.
  • Included: Frame, DC21 Carbon Fork, micro-adjust post, Ti Clamp, Headset, Anodised alloy adjusters, Stainless bottle and rack bolts.
  • This Kinesis frame carries a 5 year manufacturers warranty.

Fast race bike with outstanding handling and sprinting performance - Review by Procycling

Procycling July 2012

Rating 4.5 Stars Out Of 5

Swift Carbon is a young brand that only arrived in the UK this year and the Ultravox is the vanguard. The brand’s founder and co-owner, Mark Blewett, was a pro in the 90s and uses his experience – and 12 hrs-a-week fitness – to lead the design, shape the geometry and test the prototypes of every model himself.

The Ultravox (yes, it is named after the ’80s pop group) is made for racing with ultra-high modulus Toray T800, T1000 and Mitsubishi MR40 carbon fibres with a unidirectional matt finish. Swift’s Glide Tech internal moulding process ensures the highest possible compaction of the carbon layers. The head tube, down tube, chainstays and the shell around the press-fit 30 bottom bracket are all huge for maximum stiffness – Swift claim very high ratings of 250N/mm at the BB and 130N/mm for the headtube.

The immediate and lasting impression from the Ultravox is how settled it feels. Make no mistake, this is a fast bike, as some new Strava KoMs and best route times attest, but it doesn’t make a fuss about it. The wheels are deep enough to give an aero benefit yet weigh just 1,349g (tested) which is superlight for mid-depth clinchers so they spin up quickly. They also give outstanding braking power. They could be a bit stiffer but so could most wheels, especially at this weight.

We also ran the Swift on some super-stiff Reynolds RZR wheels which really let the frame shine. The strength in the BB and headtube is immense and it feels great when you attack a short hill at full gas. This rigidity and the low weight of 6.8kg (with power meter, no pedals) means that longer hills are also a pleasure. The thin seatstays provide good comfort, too.

The real standout quality, though, is the handling. The Ultravox has a poise and grace seldom found in a bike so rapid, tracking a chosen line or pulling tighter at will.
There’s nothing obviously special in the geometry but there is in the ride.

Jamie Wilkins (Procycling test rider)

PROs:
Steering, stiffness, comfort, braking

CONs:
Wheels could be a bit stiffer

VERDICT:
Fast race bike with outstanding handling and sprinting performance

Road tested: swift carbon RS-1 ultravox

Raced by: A ProConti team from 2013…

Design Philosophy

The U-Vox was designed for an ‘intelligent’ ride quality, to have the right level of power, comfort and handling exactly when you need it. The bike must always respond how you need and want it to in every aspect. We also wanted to create a unique design language through boxy shapes and edgy lines. The U-Vox is our flagship bike and our presentation to the cycling world so there was no room for error on this project.

Best Steel Ride Ever - Review by Craig

I’ve been racing since the early 90’s – former Cat II. I have had the honor to ride Bianchi, Fondriest, De Rosa, Pinarello, and Colnago – yes I favor the Italians. During my racing times and today nothing has the feel of the Master. I owned a Word Perfect in 1996 and I purchased a 2008 version. They are identical with the exception of the carbon fork on the 08.

I’ve owned and raced steel, carbon, and titanium – nothing performs like Ernesto’s Master. Predictable, agile, fast, and smooth. It sprints as well as it climbs. Great ride that is extremely quiet with GREAT durability.

Master X-Light is a master piece. - Review by Tids

The Colnago Master is exactly that. A master piece. The famous clover leaf tubes on the frame and the detail in the construction are magnificent. It's great to see that it's still hand made in Italy in Ernesto's basement. The quality and depth of the paint PR82 is superb. It glistens in the sun so much that it almost blinds you. It gets a lot of comments from the bunch too.
The ride of the Master X-Light frame is very very responsive. Every inch of force placed on the pedals directly translates to power on the ground. It's cornering ability is sure footed. It feels strong and stable.
The weight is not overly light but built up with a careful selection of parts you can build your Master X-Light to around 7.5kg's. That's heavy by any means.
I would highly recommend one as a second bike for a dry sunny day bike. You'll love it.
