Shelbina, Missouri and went to college in Boston, Massachusetts. God used him as a leader in the college and young adult ministries at Boston's Park Street Church. He met his future wife Kathy as he was beginning to train for pastoral ministry at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. By the time he graduated in 1994, he had already been leading in various ministries for 15 years.
God moved Jerry and Kathy to Minnesota, where he pastored First Congregational Church (CCCC) of Mantorville for 14 years. He also served as an Area Representative and member of the Board of Directors for our denomination, the Conservative Congregational Christian Conference (CCCC).
Jerry came to know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior through family faithfully taking him to Sunday School and church, and their reading Bible stories to him every night. When he was 10 years old, he responded to Christ, through the preaching and personal counsel of the pastor at Shelbina First Baptist Church. He is grateful for the many people God put in his path over the years who have been disciplers, encouragers, and examples of how to walk in a vibrant personal relationship with the Lord Jesus. And God has given Jerry a passion for helping others know the Lord and grow in their own relationship to Him.
Kathy is Jerry's love and best friend. She grew up in Peabody, Massachusetts, and spent most summers with family and relatives who live on the coast of Maine. She went to Gordon College, and worked in the Boston area. After further study at Sargent College (Boston University), she worked as a pediatric Occupational Therapist. Since they were little, Kathy has been staying at home and homeschooling the Platz kids, Elizabeth and David. Jerry and Kathy have been married over 25 years.
