Changes Coming January 1, 2018

As of midnight, January 1, 2018, Denver Water will be taking over the water system from Berkeley Water and Sanitation. For 56 years, Berkeley has been a Read and Bill District under Denver Water providing response to water issues and paying for water repairs and improvements using only the revenue received from our sanitation customers. As of the first, Berkeley water customers will now be directed to call Denver Water for all water related questions.

The $8 service fee Berkeley charged its customers on the Denver Water bill will go away on the January water bill. Customers will now be paying Denver Water as a Total Service with Improvement customer outside of Denver. Current rates can be found at https://www.denverwater.org/residential/billing-and-rates/2017-rates.

Please be mindful of this as you walk or drive around this activity.

Board Approves Increase in Rates

posted Dec 11, 2015, 10:46 AM by Berkeley Water District

The Berkeley Board of Directors have approved an increase in sewer rates beginning January 1, 2016. The Board increased the monthly sewer charge from $15.28 to $17.95, an increase of $2.67 per month. Quarterly sewer charges will be $53.84 or $8 more per quarter. The Board was told by their auditor they needed to increase rates to make up for capital improvement costs in 2014 and 2015 totaling $689,772 (without the $268,784 grant that was received in 2014). The Board also had to pay for five water main breaks in 2015 for a total of $90,325.

Denver Water bills will also reflect an $8 per month service charge to pay for water main breaks and capital improvements as Berkeley's 54 year water and sanitation systems is aging. A master plan has been developed and the main lines most in need will be addressed.
