THANK YOU. :)

BTIP meets at the Free Speech Cafe, usually on the outside (West) veranda, located in the Moffitt Undergrad Library building, physically at the geographic center of campus.

The UCB campus is located at the base of the hills in Berkeley.  It is accessable by bus, BART, car & train.

Driving

The main freeway, 880, runs along the San Francisco Bay shore.  University Ave is the exit that comes directly up to campus.

There is lots of parking on & off campus.  On campus parking always requires payment, 7 days per week, holidays included, IIRC.

Free parking, either for 2 hours at a time, or all day, depending on the location, is available in several places around the outside of campus.  There is generally more free parking on Sundays, & during the summer.

All day free parking
is most likely found north of campus, which is hilly.  At the North North East side of campus, such as Ridge Rd east (above) Le Roy, on the blocks above Soda Hall (the Computer Science building at Hearst & Le Roy), there is often all day free parking on both Saturday & Sunday.  That is my suggested place to look for free parking.  This has about a 10 minute downhill walk to the FSCafe where we meet.

Hearst Ave, at the north perimeter of campus, has 2 hour free parking Saturday, & all day free parking on Sunday, IIRC.  This is about a 5 minute walk to the FSCafe.  If parking here on Saturday, remember to go back after 2 hours to check to see if your tire has been marked with chalk - could be dark red & hard to see, or maybe white or yellow chalk.

BART

The "Berkeley" BART station is in downtown Berkeley, 1 block from campus,  It is about a 10 minute walk slightly uphill to the FSCafe.

Train

The train station for Berkeley is on University Ave, near the freeway, about 1.5 miles downhill from the campus.  You'll probably want to catch a bus uphill to the campus.  Or, you could ride a bike up in 12 minutes, or walk up in 30 minutes.

Food at BTIP:

The Free Speech Cafe is typically expensive food for a student budget.  There are about 40 restaurants or food stores nearby in Berkeley of all price ranges, within a 5-10 minute walk of the FSCafe.  The 3 main areas are: 1) Southside / Telegraph Ave, 2) Downtown, 3) Northside.   McDonald's in downtown has a $1 menu.  You can't loose by bringing a bag lunch.

"Where meet Dec 20 - Suggestions?

What are your suggestions?

We need suggestions for where to meet.  My #1 preference would be a
rather public place with people around, like a wifi cafe.  Needs to have
voip quality inet!!!  What wifi cafe near campus do you recommend?

Maybe also some UCB campus building, Soda, Cory, etc, but this is the
day after finals, & open places will be closed.  But, people are in
Soda, Cory, etc.  So, maybe just a room in some building - but, not so
good cause not as pleasant as with many people around.

Also, I'll ask our server box host if he'd be willing to have the
meeting at his office.  Then we could work on freeswitch VOIP stuff with
the box right there.  Jack - would that be a doable option?

Less good cause not a lot of people around, & also I don't know if we
can reserve it yet, is the room at the Berk city public main library,
which we used last January.  But, the wifi was fine for voip.

It would be preferable to keep discussion about the meeting location on
the local berkeley BTIP mailing list, BerkTIP at (youknowwhere), but you
can also send email to the global list, if you wish.

==  Berkeley meeting LOCATION:  Watch the website & mail list for latest
details,  perhaps at the Berkeley Public Library, or a cafe, due to Free
Speech Cafe closed for winter break.
