Welcome to the Berkeley Parent to Parent Connection. Our mission is to increase community involvement while engaging with the school district in regards to the special education programs that target critical issues, and jointly come up with solutions to ensure the best educational outcome.

We meet once every other month to discuss our concerns, as a group, and come up with a plan on how to address them with the Director of Special Services. Currently we have an Organizational Board that meets with the Director for this discussion.

This group is for any parent that has a child with any educational supports including (but not limited to): an IEP, 504, OT/PT or Speech Therapies, Basic Skills/Resource Room or any suspected additional educational needs.

Special Education Parent Advisory Groups are required for all school districts in New Jersey. The purpose of these groups is to provide opportunities for parents and community members to offer input to their districts on critical issues relating to students with disabilities.

New Jersey Administrative Code 6A:14-1.2(h) states:

Each district board of education shall ensure that a special education parent advisory group is in place in the district to provide input to the district on issues concerning students with disabilities

Appropriate issues (Systemic issues):
*District policies and procedures
*Funding issues
*Staffing and professional development needs
*Facility issues (accessibility, location of programs)
*Inclusion/LRE (Least Restrictive Environment)
*Transition
*Related services
*ESY (Extended School Year)

Anything that is deemed district/program/school wide. If it is an individual issue, you will need to address that with your case manager.
