Post date: 25 juin 2013 12:48:35

On the weekend 6-8 September 2013, Bergens Geofysikeres Forening will do a trip to the beautiful Folgefonna glacier in Hardanger. On Saturday we will do a walk onto the blue ice of the glacier, with guides from Folgefonni Breførarlag. Prof. Jostein Bakke from the Bjerknes Centre will be our private scientific guide during the walk, and will tell us about the history, present and future scenarios of Folgefonna.

A house with 22 beds has been rented from Friday to Sunday at Flatabø Overnatting, where we will prepare our own food. The house is located 15 minutes from Jondal in the direction of Folgefonna Skisenter, which will be the starting point of the hike.

It will be possible for participants to stay one or two nights (Friday-Sunday) at this house, or do the glacier excursion as a daytrip from Bergen on Saturday 7 September. Sunday is open to other activities.

We will travel with private cars or public buses from Bergen. Driving from Bergen to Jondal takes 1.5 hours, plus a ferry of 20 minutes.

The prices (excluding travel to/from Jondal) are:

  • 1200,- for non-members
  • 1000,- for regular BGF-members
  • 800,- for student/PhD members and school pupils

This includes guiding, glacier equipment, and food and lodging for one or two nights.

Both new and old members are welcome!
