REFERENCES AND LOOK-UP VOLUNTEERS
Guidelines when asking for help from Bergen County Lookup Volunteers

  1. Note: This list of volunteers has not been updated since 2002. Please contact Bergen County Volunteer Coordinator & Webmaster, Denise Wells [contact me by email] immediately if the email address does not work, if you are a volunteer who no longer wishes to offer this service, or if you are a volunteer who is willing to perform a look up in any source relating to Bergen County, New Jersey.
  2. To request a lookup for any of the references, click on the address of the look-up volunteer and ask them politely.
    IMPORTANT...Please put
LOOKUP-BERGEN COUNTY in the subject line. This will ensure that your request is not accidentally overlooked or deleted.
  3. Be sure to include the name of book or CD you are requesting the lookup from in your message. Don't forget to sign your email message.
  4. Limit your request to 1 or 2 specific names. For example, do not ask for ALL the marriages on a surname; otherwise, your request will probably be ignored or denied.
  5. Don't forget to say "thank you" to your look-up volunteer for their time and trouble.  They are often a wealth of information and remember, they are volunteers!  Thank you!

  • Mortality Census Schedules 1850-1880 (Federal)
  • Military Service Records 1775-1903
  • Military Pensions 1775-1916
  • Pension Application Files of Remarried Widows
  • Bounty Land Warrants for Revolutionary War Service
  • Bounty Land Warrants for War of 1812 Service 1815-1858
  • Registers of Enlistments in the U.S. Army 1798-1914
  • Passenger Lists 1820-1954 (Customs & Immigrations)
  • Passport Applications 1791-1926
  • Land Records 1800-1974 (in public land states)
  • Documents & Records Civil War Original Military Pension Records (Union only)
  • Compiled Military Service Records (Union and Confederate)
  • Troop Movements (Union & Confederate) - Field/Staff, Regimental, Unit levels)

I can provide service to those who would like such information (photocopies of available original documents, records or otherwise), at reasonable rates as I live in Washington, DC and have ready access to information in the U.S. National Archives, much of which is not available in county, state or even regional national archives.  There are no legal concerns about copyrighted material because the information in the National Archives is in the public domain for all the American people.
