About Me

I was born in southern California and then spent most of my childhood in Fort Collins, CO. It's a wonderful town with great educational opportunities for children. I've also become fond of the Midwest during my time here, and know that there are many opportunities for me in this part of the country.

I did my first stint of post-secondary academic work (more on the horizon) at Iowa State University. My major was in physics and I also took classes in curriculum and instruction as a part of my path toward teacher licensure. Following a semester of student teaching at Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, I graduated cum laude in the spring of 2008.

Following graduation I moved to Dubuque, IA and married Amber shortly thereafter.  For the next three years, I commuted to Davenport where I taught science at Davenport North High School, then spent a year working at an alternative high school program called Connect in Dubuque.

Amber is working as a copy editor at the Des Moines Register, and I am teaching science at Waukee High School.  To access my class web site for Connect, click "Current Teaching" on the left side of this page.

Since March of 2012, we have each gotten new jobs, we've sold our house in Dubuque, we are buying a house in Ankeny (August 15th), and we're having our first baby in late October.  It's a busy year for us!

We have two cats, Cydinger and Relativity, who love to annoy the heck out of us and each other.

When I have free time, I spend as much of it as possible with Amber, frequently playing games and watching movies.  I also devote time to woodworking, and am gradually improving my abilities.
