Akari: one last shot before we wrap this shoot...
This was one of the last shots I took of Akari on Saturday, a quick one with the Orbis Ringflash attached to my Nikon SB-800 strobe. Lens? The 'plastic fantastic' as I call it: Nikon's 28-80mm f/3.3 - 5.6 G series kit lens. On the face of it this lens is a piece of cheap shit.... but, if you stop it down a little then it becomes an awesome short zoom and at 4000Yen used, a very affordable [almost throw-away] alternative to the massive, heavy and expensive 24-70. The flash helps with the sharpness but a little stopped-down this lens is pretty damn sharp and it weighs nothing... so it's ideal for close-in shots with flash especially. Very 'high-key' this shot and it was quickly done as we were wrapping up a lovely day of shooting and the beer was calling. No make-up person for this shoot as she'd caught the flu, so I would usually not get in so extra-close when we didn't have someone around to make sure the model was looking 150%. But, boosting the exposure makes the skin glow anyway and a little bit of PP to help that even further has made a pretty OK sort of shot I think. Sort of like a Geisha's makeup. Anyway, here she is.... Nikon D700 Nikkor 28-80 f/3.3-5.6 G SB800 strobe Orbis Ringflash SC-17 off-camera cable
but the little girls understand
Nothing cheers up a gloomy grey day like a shopping spree at sephora -- all the sparkly colors, the fragrances, the lotions and lipglosses -- heaven! It's like the world's best-smelling toy store. I spent a lovely afternoon primping and playing and sampling all the goodies. finding lots of wonderful stuff, then having to decide what I could actually fit into my giftcard budget. I managed to narrow it down to these delightful goodies: 1. Bare Escentuals Smoky Eye Kit -- a shimmery champagne-colored loose powder shadow and a smoky grey matte loose powder shadow, with a great brush. 2. Philosophy Make-up Optional Sample Kit -- a luxe sample of several of their skin care products. 3. Smashbox Photo Finish -- a color correcting make-up primer to help with my lovely ruddy complexion. 4. Sephora Sparkle Eyeshadow -- so sparkly, so purple 5. Anastasia Eyebrow Pomade -- great stuff, and the package is cute too 6. Bourjois Coup de Theatre Mascara -- best. mascara. ever. 7. Sephora Lipgloss -- of course
