Spring  Bank Holiday Open Doubles 2016

A full field of 32 couples enjoyed a competitive days bowling in dry , but mostly dull conditions for the 2016 Belper MeadowsSpring Bank Holiday Open Bowls Doubles sponsored by  ETS Tyres and Autocentres

Gordon Kirkland and Carl Hawksworth (Little Eaton) were in fine form , taking out more favoured opponents on their way
to the Semi-Final were they met Linda and Peter Wheeldon ( Allestree ) who came through a titanic struggle with Eddie and Billy
Marshall.

In the other half of the draw , Simon Litherland (Chellaston) and Liam Tooth (Chaddesden) twice overcame large defecits
to turn around their matches into wins and gain a place in the semi-final , where they were joined by Eric Riley (Marehay)
and Pete Brailsford (Horsley) who had a relatively smooth passage to join them

Semi Finals

Linda and Peter Wheeldon        21-17   Gordon Kirkland and Carl Hawksworth
Eric Riley and Peter Brailsford   21-16  Simon Litherland and Liam Tooth

The Final was an absorbing match , that split into three distinct sections , each section testing both  the ability and mental strength of each bowlers.
- the first section started with the pairs closely matched with never more than a point separating the couples , but then the  Riley / Brailsford partnership
found some consistency on longer marks and reached a seemingly unassailable 20-10 lead , but vitally , the Allestree pairing regained the jack
in time and started to set shorter marks and began to whittle away the deficit , and having fought back to 20-20 they went on to get that winning shot to
complete the most remarkable of comebacks

Final Score :  Linda and Peter Wheeldon  21-20  Eric Riley and Peter Brailsford
