Sun Safety Week:
Sun Safety Week starts tomorrow, Monday May 4th. See attached flier. Themes are as follows:
Monday- “Orange-You-Glad-You’re-Aware." Wear orange to school and become aware of the importance of sun safety!
Tuesday- “Never-Too-Cool-For-Shades." Eye protection is so important! Wear your sunglasses today!
Wednesday- “UV Wednesday." What is the UV Index? We’ll learn what the UV index is, and how to check it. This will be a special “give away” day for all students
Thursday- “Cover Up Thursday!” Don’t forget to wear sunblock, today and every day! We’ll learn what “SPF” means and how to read the numbers on sunscreen bottles.
Friday - “Don’t FRY DAY!” Who has the best sun hat? Wear your hat to school and show us what you’ve got!
In connection with Sun Safety Week, Bellerose 5th grader, Cassy Howard has organized a team, Cassy's Bellerose Buds, to walk at the Miles for Melanoma 5k run/walk to be held on May 31st at Eisenhower Park. If you are interested in participating, please contact Denise Howard
The beautification committee will be meeting outside Bellerose tomorrow, Monday May 4th at 9:30 a.m.. Please bring gardening equipment. All are welcome. Donations of plants are welcome, too. If you have any questions, contact Jennifer McNaughton or call her at 516-885-8586.
Welcome Reception for the New Superintendent:
There will be a welcome reception for Mr. Robert Banzer, the new Superintendent of Schools, tomorrow, Monday, May 4th at 7:00 at WJB.
School Store special Mother's Day Event
On this Wednesday and Thursday, the school store will be selling plants for 25 cents each in celebration of Mother's Day so your child can buy a plant for the special women in their lives.
Staff Appreciation Day:
Our Annual Staff Appreciation Day is scheduled for Wednesday, May 6th and we need your help to make this work for all of our wonderful Bellerose Staff! Don't forget, we are asking the children to draw or write notes of appreciation to any staff member. These can be done at home and sent in via backpack. There will be a collection bin in the main office for these. They will be used to decorate the staff lounge. You may want to mention the retirees this year: Mrs. Friess- Teacher, Mrs. Chorney -Speech, Mrs. Schmitt -Teacher's Asst. Making Mathematicians: Mindset Matters - Special Program
Important (and Helpful!) Information for Parents. Are you... Frustrated with homework? Confused by Common Core?Just trying to help your child succeed? Wondering what brain research says about "making mathematicians?" If so, then this workshop if for you! Learn how to help your child persevere through challenges. Explore what it makes to embrace a growth mindset and discover ways to help your child develop a growth mindset. This workshop will expose parents to the research behind growth mindset and engage parents in enlightening conversation on the topic of "grit." Please join us in an evening of videos, activities, and discussion. Everyone CAN learn math!
This workshop will take place on May 7th - 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the East Northport Middle School Cafeteria. Presented by Robin Rann - K-12 Chairperson of Mathematics, Elizabeth Dragone - Psychologist, Norwood Avenue School and Matt Comiskey - AIS Math Teacher, Pulaski Road School.

Meet the Candidates
The Northport-East Northport PTA Council will host a "Meet the School Board Candidates Night" on Tuesday, May 12
, 2015 at 7 pm. The event will be held at the Northport High School library. All are invited to attend. If you would like to ask a specific question (to all candidates or to an individual candidate), please submit your questions to the PTA council at firstname.lastname@example.org
by Friday, May 8. This is a great opportunity to hear the candidates state their positions on a variety of important topics.

District Budget Vote:
The School District will be holding the annual budget vote and the vote for trustees of the BOE on Tuesday, May 19th. There will be a special BOE meeting that night to accept the election results.
Next PTA Meeting-
