Avengers: Infinity War

Avengers: Infinity War

Rating: 5/5

Avengers, assemble!

For years, Thanos has been plotting a way to possess all six Infinity Stones, in order to carryout his plan of ridding the galaxies of half their population to heal the universe of its countless problems. To prevent Thanos from succeeding, though strained since their battle in Germany, the Avengers once again band together in order to bring down their shared nemesis.

Infinity War begins where Thor: Ragnarock left off. Thanos has taken over the ship of Asgardian refugees and chaos ensues. With a scene that packs a punch, the audience is instantly in the clutches of the movie's gripping power. It immediately shows you that no character, no matter how powerful or crucial to the MCU, will be deemed safe in the eyes of Infinity War. Prior to seeing it for the first time, if one has any knowledge of the plot, they will know that many of the main players may not make it out alive by the time the end credits begin to roll, but with such a strong opening to the film, that concept is hammered in even more.

As someone who admittedly became a fan of the Marvel Universe through the movies rather than the comics, I can only judge or review based on my love of film rather than the decades of writing that came before. That being said, I always immensely enjoy this movie every time I watch it. Even though I have limited knowledge of the Marvel comics themselves, there's something chill inducing about seeing such a collection of heroes come together on one screen. I have grown to love these characters more and more over the many times I've watched their films, but seeing them band together, fighting as one, never fails to put an instant smile on my face, get my adrenaline pumping, and find myself completely thrilled by the action on the screen.  If I had to pick an exact moment where this concept plays out to perfection, it would hands down be when Thor is reunited with some of his former heroes in Wakanda.

With there being so many characters in this film, Infinity War does a fantastic job of showing separate story lines, but not making it too complicated or confusing. We see such a multitude of characters, but there is no question as to what is happening throughout the film. With such a variety of heroes to be found in this film, it's hard to pick a standout or favorite, but I find Tom Holland as Peter "Spider-Man" Parker, once again winning me over. His character is given some fairly obvious jokes in which the age difference between him and his fellow Avengers is made fun of, but it's not in those moments where I find myself seeing Spider-Man as one of my favorites. It's in the smaller, more emotional scenes. There's a lot of very serious sequences in Infinity War, and without question, Peter Parker is found in one of the most memorable. It is Holland's performance, along with many others from the immensely talented cast, that make this movie such an impressive film in the superhero archives.

Of the numerous entries in the MCU, I would say that Infinity War is definitely in the vicinity of my top favorites of the Marvel films along with Thor: Ragnarok , Endgame, and Black Panther. Overall, it is a fantastic piece of superhero cinema that is a must see.
