'The view from my window' is the title of the below artwork in acrylic paint by the website editor, Deborah Hay. The painting has the rainbow symbol of hope, as also inspired during the global pandemic crisis, to display in the nation's windows and to thank the UK's National Health Service (NHS) and the frontline health carers, as well as key workers. It was also the editor's entry for a national competition set by British (Turner prize winning) artist Grayson Perry and his weekly Art Club which was broadcast by the UK's Channel 4. Grayson's first televised Art Club began in 2020 and continued into 2021. It proved a true tonic and a good distraction for the nation in the most trying of times.
The View From My Window
Grayson's televised Art Club was set up in May 2020 to inspire the nation at the start of the Coronavirus pandemic and during the 1st national 'lockdown' where everyone was asked by then Prime Minister Boris Johnson to 'stay at home to save lives'. Grayson showcased established and beginner artists in his weekly programme. The quirky artist also presented his own art and art techniques and introduced many guests to the nation, including his wife, psychiatrist Phillipa Perry and the family cat, Kevin. The much celebrated artist also encouraged viewers to take part in weekly competitions, with the coveted reward (other than being inspired!) being a place in Grayson's special post-pandemic exhibition. The painting on this page didn’t make Grayson's final cut! But that wasn’t really the goal. The artist of this painting (the website editor) was inspired along with many others!
