Wow....it has been a busy summer.  I've read though my class feedback, reorganized some stuff  and have planned some new stuff!

I'm excited to be heading back to school...lots of new things to try!  I can't wait!

There's only a few weeks left....so enjoy and come back ready to work hard and have fun!

So....are you looking to try a different and exciting language? Or do you know someone else who wants to? Please Watch (or share) these links!

Why do students take Japanese anyway?  Here are some students (and myself) telling you why we took Japanese.

Here are some Japanese projects done by my students.

Thought about being a host family?

The Laurasian Institution is a great organization that promotes exchanges from Japan and asia.   If you ever thought it would be interesting to host a student....they are a great organization to work with.

Follow this link and learn more hosting and their organization.  Also, if you poke around their webpage, you can also see what other opportunities they have for you to go to Japan.

Ready for school? New things are coming your way!

Well....it's that time of the year...and if you were in my class last year, you know I am changing things up.   We will be trying some new things in how grading is done.  It's really not all that different, just the approach.  We are going to have Expert Points (XP) and you will be leveling up throughout the semester.

This is a whole new approach, but I am really, really excited for it.  I think it'll prove to be a lot of fun.  So...if you want to get a little bit of a head start, create your avatar....pick a name (and no, I will not use this in class as I have enough problems with your real name) and start thinking of a backstory for your character.  What to they like, dislike, etc?

It's going to be fun!

Also, since this is something new, I welcome your feedback so that we can make this as educational and fun as possible.

See you soon!

That's right...you read correctly.  We're going to get this started at Rock Bridge and hopefully Hickman as well.  I've got someone in place for RBHS...if there's a motivated student who would like to take charge at Hickman...let me know.

Here are the requirements:

Academic criteria for student induction in JNHS are as follows:

  • the student has completed the first term of his/her second-year Japanese language course in middle/junior high or a senior high school;
  • the student has maintained a 3.5 GPA in Japanese courses and an overall 3.0 GPA.

Kizuna & Projects/Assigments While I'm gone

This is crazy!   The trip is upon me!   So while I'm gone...here's what you'll be doing.

1) I have attached the assignment rubric (at the bottom)  for those of you who will be holding down the fort while we go to Japan.  You will get a hard copy in class BUT, the copy attached here is most current.
You will be given some time in class to work on this, but you will also probably need to spend time outside of class on this as well.

2) You will need your journals. You will be watching a movie and answering questions in there.

3) You will also be seeing what we're doing in Japan by visiting my blog and making notes of questions or things that you want more information.

4) You will want to also work on your online quizzes as well.  Don't forget you need your log in information.
