The Convention Centre Dublin (CCD)
The Convention Centre Dublin (CCD)
The Convention Centre Dublin (CCD) in the Dublin Docklands was officially opened by An Taoiseach on 7 September 2010. The building overlooks the River Liffey at Spencer Dock. It was designed by the Irish architect Kevin Roche. The CCD was shortlisted for the Engineers Ireland Excellence Awards - Engineering Project of the Year 2010. Construction of the project was undertaken by Construction Management Partnership (CMP), a joint venture between Treasury Holdings Limited and John Sisk & Son Limited. The building is iconic for a number of architectural innovations, particularly the glass frontage and numerous curved walls. The building can hold up to 8,000 people in 22 meeting rooms, which include a 2,000-seat auditorium and a 4,500 square metre exhibition and banqueting space. It is the first carbon neutral convention centre in the world because of its use of low carbon cement and the offsetting of unavoidable carbon emissions by purchasing carbon credits in accordance with the Voluntary Carbon Standard. It also features a thermal wheel heat recovery system and an ice storage thermal unit to provide air conditioning for the building. Carbon Neutral and Sustainable Building on our green foundations As the world’s first carbon neutral convention centre, we are committed to long-term environmental sustainability in accordance with the International Standards Organisation (ISO) 14001 and will be seeking accreditation within 18 months of opening. This includes recycling, a focus on reducing overall energy consumption by using a sustainable energy supplier and integrating sustainable systems at the venue, such as our Integrated Building Automated System (IBAS). We have also installed a thermal wheel heat recovery system and an Ice Storage Thermal Unit (ISTU), which chills water overnight to form large ice blocks that melt during the day to provide air conditioning for the entire building. In order to help delegates to keep their journey carbon neutral, we offer international visitors the opportunity to offset their carbon emissions from air travel using our carbon calculator. And, should an organiser wish to explore how they can reduce the carbon footprint of their event, we can look at this with them, using the consultancy expertise of Emission Zero. Our Environmental Policy We have developed our environmental management policy to positively impact on local, national and global environmental issues by prompting good practice at The CCD. This includes our customers, contractors and suppliers. We are committed to the following: Conserving energy and selecting renewable sources of energy and materials where possible Preventing pollution Leading the exhibition and event industry to develop solutions to environmental issues within the industry Encouraging colleagues to become more environmentally responsible Positively developing our environmental policies, procedures and systems Minimising waste Ensuring that any paper and timber we use is obtained from sustainable forests Developing an integrated transport policy We recognise the role we play and our responsibility to protect the environment from further damage and minimise the waste we produce. We are therefore committed to operating in an environmentally friendly way. We also recognise that we cannot succeed in this alone. To fulfil our role, we must work closely with our sponsors, clients, suppliers and other members of the Tourism and Conference Industry.
Winnipeg Convention Centre
Winnipeg Convention Centre
Typical Convention Centre. There are few restourants hidden inside. Not much else going on unless there is an event happening. When it was completed in 1975, there were only a few similar facilities in Canada at the time. And in 1975, Winnipeg had the largest convention centre in Canada.

21st Century U.S. Military Law of War Deskbook - JAG Textbook on History and Framework of Law of War, Legal Bases for Use of Force, Geneva Conventions, War Crimes, Human Rights, Comparative Law
This ebook provides a reproduction of the Judge Advocate General Law of War Deskbook, with coverage of the history and framework of the law of war, the legal basis for the use of force, Geneva Conventions on the wounded and sick in the field, Prisoners of War, Civilians in the Battlefield, Occupation and Post-conflict governance, means and methods of warfare, war crimes and command responsibility, human rights, and comparative law. Military operations involve complex questions related to international law. This body of law provides the framework for informed operational decisions, establishes certain limitations on the scope and nature of command options, and imposes affirmative obligations related to the conduct of U.S. forces. Commanders rely on Judge Advocates to understand fundamental principles of international law, translate those principles into an operational product, and articulate the essence of the principles when required.

This Law of War Deskbook is intended to replace, in a single bound volume, similar individual outlines that had been distributed as part of the Judge Advocate Officer Graduate and Basic Courses and the Operational Law of War Course. Together with the Operational Law Handbook and Law of War Documentary Supplement, these three volumes represent the range of international and operational law subjects taught to military judge advocates. Our audience is the beginning and intermediate level practitioner; our hope is that this material will provide a solid foundation upon which further study may be built.
