What does Reference mean?

Have you ever been asked to consult a Reference resource for one of your assignments?

A Reference resource refers to a work (such as a dictionary, an encyclopedia, a thesaurus, etc.) that provides basic facts and information on a topic.

So, if you're asked to write a paper on Thomas Edison and the impact his inventions have had on America, you might want to start by finding out who Thomas Edison was and what inventions he was responsible for.

Instead of reading an entire book on Edison, try first to look him up in a print Encyclopedia or take a look at our Reference Resources page.

Even better- try using Credo Reference- an online database of numerous Reference resources!

One search will pull results from numerous encyclopedias, dictionaries and much more!

The BCCC Library has an entire section devoted specifically to Reference.  See the Library Resources Map to locate them!
