Our club has operated under the name “Haida” since 1968 when it was formed as part of a community affiliation with the UBC Thunderbirds athletics programs. The club moved to Kensington Arena in Burnaby in 1972. In 2016, the club executive decided that the continued use of the name “Haida” was not appropriate, as the club and its members (former and present) have no affiliation or relationship with the Haida Nation peoples. The club is in the process of transitioning to a new club name and logo.
The 2016-2017 season kicks off with the first ice session on September 10, 2015 and Introduction to Speed Skating sessions start on September 17, 2016.
Returning skaters: don't forget to Register for the 2016-2017 Season
Starting on September 10, our regular ice times are:
Tuesdays 6:30 to 7:30 a.m., all groups
Beginning skaters usually skate in the first session of the day, with subsequent sessions having faster skaters as designated by the coaches.
You do not have to be a Burnaby resident to skate with us. We also offer an Introduction to Speed Skating program that will run over three consecutive Saturdays (from 3:00-4:00 pm). This season we have already run two introductions:
Saturday, 17 September 2016
Our next set of Introduction to Speed Skating sessions starts:
Saturday, 14 January 2016
For more information, download our Introduction to Speed Skating, see the Programs page or email email@example.com.
Be sure to contact the club well before your planned start date so that we can help with arranging any equipment beforehand and you get the maximum time on the ice.
