Let's Get Infected with Blood Sucking Parasites! If you have a crippling autoimmune related illness and you've tried everything else, and the doctors can't cure you, then you may want to consider Hookworms. The "Hygiene Theory" says because our modern western lifestyle is so clean, our relatively unchallenged immune systems now misfire causing asthma, allergies, MS, Crohn's disease etc. Some observers have noted that as people move from the jungle to the city (shoes and toilets) they get western illnesses. Moving back to the jungle (bare feet and shallow latrines containing hookworms) they once again lose their illnesses. Much interest has been generated as success stories start to surface from people who have cured themselves using a small dose of hookworms. The therapy is considered safe (from our experience so far). Hookworms set up home in your lower intestine and cannot reproduce in the host. Once mature 1000's of microscopic eggs pass out your backside each day. You can't feel or see them. They don't make your bottom itch and don't effect other vital organs. Readily available medicine can be taken to kill off the population in just 2 days.
Note that you only retain your new health while you are infected. It's a remission not a cure. In this collage: Images of hookworms at various stages of development. Jasper Lawrence (partly responsible for bringing the therapy to the attention of the world). A man digging a latrine to help eradicate hookworm infection in a poor community (must be > 4 feet deep so typically 6 feet depth is dug). A man receiving an experimental dose of hookworms in one of the many trials being carried out around the world (in this case 2008 Brisbane, Queensland trial for coeliac disease). Side-effectsRead the blogs and you will find most people suffer from side effects for the first 12 weeks or so. For me it was extreme fatigue. At times I was too tied to think straight. Your provider will tell you to keep up your protein intake. Crohn's disease suffers also seem to experience a few days of a high temperature. It can get pretty tough going so pick the right time to start therapy. Some lucky individuals have no side effects. Most of us in the west have never experienced parasites so it can be hard going initially. After 12 weeks you enter the improvement zone and things will start to get much easier. It takes over a year to take full effect. For some the end result is nothing less than miraculous: Read about John Scott's experience. It does not work effectively in all cases but it seems that the majority of autoimmune suffers find relief. For me at the 12 month mark, I am finally living a normal life after years of struggling with chemical sensitivities and being on a very limited diet. Today I can eat anything and no longer suffer extreme reactions to my environment. As a sensitive person I initially reacted to the parasites quite a bit. The immune systems really doesn't like parasites and can react quite strongly at various stages of the worms life cycle. It settles down after a while and with the T1 and T2 helper cells in balance you lose your allergies etc. The Main ProvidersThere are several core providers of helminths. Because of new FDA laws (2009), which now classify hookworms as a pharmaceutical, hookworms are not available within the USA. Doses can however be mailed to/picked up in Canada or Mexico. Similarly in Australian doses must be posted to a convenient location for pick up. Talk to your provider for more information. Also note that providers like to see recent medical records before proceeding. They wont treat patients with HIV or Hepatitis C. I asked Garin why this was and he said that these patients can actually do worse when on hookworm therapy. A Short HistoryIn 2007 Garin Aglietti approaches Jasper Lawrence with an idea of setting up Autoimmune Therapies (AIT) to provide hookworm therapy. In June 2007 both men travel to Belize to collect hookworm and successfully infected themselves. They could now produce hookworms for sale to cure autoimmune related diseases. Up until now Garin has kept a low profile because of strict FDA laws that prohibited the promotion of experimental therapies. Jasper however was impatient and started actively promoting the therapy drawing the attention of the US FDA. The men disagreed on how to run the business and Garin left AIT to setup his own WormTherapy business in Mexico just over the US border where it was legal to treat patients with hookworms. Jasper moved AIT to the UK. Both men employ others experienced medical and lab staff.Do It Yourself InfectionI don't recommend the DYI (cultivating your own helminths) for first timers. Go through a provider (I recommend Garin at WormTherapy) and you will get regular monitoring and support via email. Skype and phone. If you are up to he challenge see DIY section of the Helminth Wiki. A New Experimental TherapyJasper from AIT has done a great job of promoting worm therapy all over the world and in every corner of the web. However as good as it all sounds on the surface, remember this is a very new experimental therapy. Much has been learned and there are many success stories starting to surface. - Garin of Wormtherapy has had the longest continuous infection that I know of - Infected mid 2007. - Jasper of AIT took around 100 worms in 2007 but felt so sick that he killed them off and started again with a smaller dose. - Debora Wades was first infected Dec 2007 -- See Web Site - John Scott gets infected March 2009 -- See Web Site. - I start my therapy recently in August 2010. Can you see how young this therapy is? WormsThere are 3 main types of worms used in autoimmune therapies. TSO (pig whipworm), TTO (human whipworm) and Hookworm (the Necator americanus variety). Whipworm I believe can be used to treat Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis (a form of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)).TSO: (Trichuris Suis Ova) Pig whipworm eggs are available from Biomonde (Asia) at 220 Euro a single dose. You need a dose every 2 weeks. A course of 10 doses (20 weeks) will cost > AU$3,000. Very expensive! TTO: (Trichuris Trichiura Ova or Trichocephalus Trichiuris Ova) Human whipworm eggs is used by AIT. TTO last much longer than TSO, about 18 months, as opposed to 2 weeks for TSO. Hookworm: The two species that commonly infect humans are Ancylostoma duodenale (Middle East, Nth Africa, India) and Necator americanus (from Americas, Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, China, and Indonesia). Autoimmune therapy uses Necator Americans which has a minimum life span of 3 years, average of 5 and a maximum life of 7+ years. Ancylostoma (I'm reading Debora's blog here) is the one you don't want as it "sucks way more blood, can live in the body in a dormant state, and may travel through the breastmilk". Dosage: I had 25 hookworms initially, Lyn had 10. Michelle 75 and 100 made Jasper feel quite sick (he killed them off and started gain at a lower dose). Most of the worlds population are infected by 25-50 worms. Having too many worms will leach out too many nutrients and can cause anaemia. Neither hookworm nor whipworm proliferate within the host, nor are they infectious (in a country where shoes or toilets are routinely used). Unlike tape worm they do not make your bottom itch (tape worm popup out to lay their eggs). Hookworms like to breed in soil where they can complete their life cycle by infecting people in bear feet. Latrines need to be > 4 feet deep since hookworms can climb up to 4 feet in the right soil conditions. Price of TreatmentThe providers do much more than just send you a vial of infectious parasite larvae to slap on your arm. They monitor and encourage you through this very long process as the immune system and health slowly return to normal. They also run labs and do lots of research into immune dysfunction and hookworms. And they pass on their knowledge to you so you can understand what is happening as you progress (at least this was my experience with Garin at WormTherapy.com). Prices are changing all the time. AIT seem to be around the US$3000 mark while WormTherapy is more like US$2500. As more people use the therapy and also return for more treatment the price will go down. The price guarantees you infection for 3 years (the minimum life of a hookworm). The price also covers you for any boosters along the way (these are done in consultation with your provider). I have friends who pays over $100 a month (> $1200 a year) for traditional medication, with bad side-effects, and makes little difference. So a couple of thousand $ is well worth the price for a chronic sufferer. It's the same price as 3 years basic gym membership in Australia. See also http://countingclub.bluesina.com/ |
