Scwhinn Predator Freeform EX 1986 (my bike from the old days)
I was never "hard core" but I sure loved to ride. Here is my 1986 Schwinn Predator Freeform EX that I bought with my own hard earned money at age 13 after looking at it everyday at the bike shop. I think it was $230 (probably with Tax and that's why I remember). My Kmart bike that I had since I was 7 was stolen about 2 weeks short of me having all the money. I upgraded the Rotor to a Gyro (actually, I think Rick Moliterno himself did the work. He worked at that shop at the time!), front and rear Skyway pegs, White laid back seat post, I think an Oddesy seat clamp, dice caps, looks like GT tires and Oakley O-wing grips. I had a "free coaster" at some point too. Not sure if it's on here or not. That made it a direct drive. I always hated those plastic pedals and can't believe I never changed them. Guess it always seemed like $15 or $25 was a ton of cash. I don't think I have any photos of my other bikes.
Raleigh Burner BMX
One of the things about getting older is the persistent awareness of your mortality. When I was a kid and had my first BMX I was fearless and my favourite activity was jumping and we had a big jump set up outside our house made of an oil drum and 2 six-foot planks. I used to jump about fifteen feet onto the flat ground. Nowadays I just can't seem to get that much air and I doubt I'd be able to approach the same jump with the gusto I had back then. I popped into Evans Cycles to get some stuff this afternoon and was greeted in the store by a replica Raleigh Burner with yellow mag wheels and mushroom grips. (my first BMX was a Super Burner which was gold but it still gave me the same nostalgia trip) The only thing that isn't quite the same is the price tag. The original price was ?80 and now it costs ?275!
