Ausdehnung, Lage und Verwaltungsstruktur [Bearbeiten] Lage in der Provinz Venedig Venedig ist die Hauptstadt der Provinz Venedig. Die Gemeinde Venedig umfasst das historische Zentrum mit rund 7 km? Flache sowie den gro?ten Teil der Lagune von Venedig mit ihren etwa funfzig Inseln. Hinzu kommen die langgestreckten Inseln Lido und Pellestrina, die die Lagune von der Adria abgrenzen, ferner die auf dem Festland gelegenen Stadtteile Chirignago, Favaro Veneto, Marghera, Mestre und Zelarino. Zur Municipalita (Stadtbezirk) Venedig-Murano-Burano gehort das historische Zentrum, das in sechs Stadtteile (Sestieri) untergliedert ist: San Polo, Dorsoduro (mit den Inseln Giudecca und San Giorgio Maggiore) und Santa Croce, die rechts des Canal Grande liegen, wahrend San Marco, Cannaregio und Castello links dieser Hauptwasserstra?e liegen. Au?erdem umfasst der Bezirk den mittleren und den nordlichen Teil der Lagune mit zahlreichen Inseln, zu deren wichtigsten die Glasblaserinsel Murano, das nordostliche Insel-Trio Burano, Mazzorbo und Torcello, die Gemuseinseln Sant'Erasmo und Vignole sowie die Friedhofsinsel San Michele gehoren. Die Municipalita Lido-Pellestrina nimmt den ostlichen Teil der Lagune mit der von Chioggia bis Jesolo reichenden Nehrung ein, die die Lagune zur Adria hin abschlie?t. Die beiden schmalen Inseln erstrecken sich uber mehr als 20 km sudwarts von Venedig. Der nordlichere Lido di Venezia entwickelte sich im 19. Jahrhundert zum mondanen Seebad mit luxuriosen Hotels und einem Spielcasino. Pellestrina lebt dagegen uberwiegend von Fischfang und Muschelfischerei. Die Municipalita Chirignago-Zelarino umfasst die auf dem Festland gelegenen Stadtteile Chirignago, Cipressina, Zelarino, Trivignano und Gazzera, die westlichen Vororte, und hat als einzige keinen Zugang zur Lagune. Die Stadt Mestre-Carpenedo auf dem Festland wurde 1926 eingemeindet und beherbergt heute mehr als die Halfte der Einwohner der Stadt. Versuche, Mestre aus der Gemeinde Venedig wieder auszugliedern, scheiterten in vier Referenden, zuletzt 2003. Der Industriestadtteil Marghera liegt ebenfalls auf dem Festland und ist durch die petrochemische Industrie gepragt. Der Stadtteil Favaro Veneto liegt nordostlich von Mestre und schlie?t den Flughafen Marco Polo ein.
