Binghamton Blizzard Girl’s Hockey Hosts RESCHEDULED Fun-Raiser Event
before the Final Sens game on April 15th
The Binghamton Blizzard Girl’s Ice Hockey Team will host an outdoor “Fun-Raiser” event in the courtyard at 20 Hawley St., directly across from the entrance to the Arena, before the final Binghamton Senators game on Saturday April 15th, from 4 to 7 pm. The event has been rescheduled from its original date of April 8th due to chilly weather forecasts. The event on the 15th features FREE admission plus $1 concession stand items, games, prizes, face painting , sports cars on display and appearances by Spongebob Squarepants, Elmo and Big Bird. Plus, buy a chance to win up to $7500 with a $25 raffle ticket available for purchase at any Matthews Auto location through April 14th. Additionally there will be 50-50 raffle and basket raffle tickets for sale which will be on display at the event and on the concourse of the Arena before the game. All winners will be announced during the 3rd period of the game and need not be present to win. The public is invited to attend.
The Blizzard, the area’s only all-girl hockey league, was established in 2000 as part of the Empire Hockey League for girls. Since then the league has grown and has had hundreds of girls participate, aged 3 to 18.
The Binghamton Blizzards are a non-profit now in their 17th season. Funds raised at the Fun-Raiser will help promote girls in sports. The benefit to the community and the girls who play is tangible. The girls grow and evolve as players and the program teaches them not just hockey skills but sportsmanship, team play and relationship building. The greatest joy for the coaching staff comes from watching girls develop – from getting on the ice for the first time and learning to skate and handle the stick and puck, to learning their positions on the ice then learning to play as a team and developing a passion and enthusiasm for the game. The Fun-Raiser is open to the public and is sponsored by M & T Bank, Harding & Brooke Insurance, Matthews Auto Group and 20 Hawley Street Luxury Student Housing.
