AWANA - Because Kids Matter to God

Awana clubs meet at the church, Sundays from 5:00 - 6:30pm.

What is Awana

Awana is an international, nondenominational, Bible-centered youth organization providing weekday clubs and programs for three year olds through 6th grade. The name AWANA comes from the first letters of Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed (2 Tim 2:15). Awana strongly emphasizes memorizing and understanding scripture. Psalm 119:11 says, Thy (God's) Word (the Bible) have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee. The Bible teaches that studying (2 Tim 2:15) and memorizing God's Word are keys to winning the battle against sin. The Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Heb 4:12). Our children discover that the verses they learn in Awana help them live Christ-honoring lives.

Awana Club Segments

- Council Time:

During this segment the Awana leaders teach a Bible lesson, clubbers sing and important announcements are made.

- Handbook Time:

During this segment clubbers work in their individual handbook learning and reciting sections. Each handbook contains approximately 90 verses to support Bible truths.

- Game Time:

Game Time is the club segment when clubbers are involved in fun games. The games encourage Christian sportsmanship, fellowship, cooperation, team spirit and friendship. All clubbers are assigned to a color team. The color team that accumulates the most points for the night is the winning team. All children are expected to participate in game time unless a parent communicates otherwise.

Who, Where, When

Awana is for children aged 3 to grade 6 and they can register the first night they attend, but it is easier to register online before Awana starts.

Ages 3 to Grade 6 meet at Bible Baptist Church for the Cubbies, Sparks and T&T programs from 5:00 - 6:30 pm on Sunday nights.

Dear Parents,

I would like to welcome you and your child to the Awana Club program at Bible Baptist Church. The name AWANA is an acrostic which stands for "Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed" and is taken from II Timothy 2:15. You will find that Awana provides a special place for your children to make new friends, play exciting games, compete in rewarding and challenging contests, receive awards as reinforcement for their good performance and have opportunities to learn and memorize God's Word, the Bible.

This booklet is designed to provide you with the basic information that you need to know and share with your children on how Awana operates. The staff of Awana is composed of volunteer workers who are very much concerned about the spiritual and social development of the clubbers. Each clubber is very special to us and to God! The staff is trained by the Awana organization and is excited to have the opportunity to minister to your child.  Your assistance as parents is very important for your children to get the most out of Awana . You can help your children by encouraging them to come each week, by helping them to memorize sections each week, by showing excitement over their achievements and by communicating any special needs with us. Clubbers may get extra points if their parents have listened to and initialized their "sections".

Together we are parents in ministry with children. We would suggest that you spend 4 to 6 minutes a day reading or reviewing "sections" for the greatest retention. Do it together with your child and your clubber will know you care for them and about what is important to them. Some Awana parents have found this time can be expanded into a fun and exciting time of family devotions each evening! Many school teachers have testified that Awana has helped children in school work and parents often comment about changed attitudes when clubbers and parents do work together!

We welcome you to visit our club meetings anytime, especially on the special parent's nights. Our desire is that Awana can be a fun, growing experience for your child...one they are not likely to soon forget!
