Joe Brandon Memorial Fish Derby

In this photo, a fisherman enjoys a moment of solitude along the Bayfield River, but for one weekend in October the river will be a buzz with fishing enthusiasts looking to catch the heaviest Rainbow Trout during the Bayfield Lions’ Club’s 34th Annual Joe Brandon Memorial Rainbow Trout Derby. Every year in October the Bayfield Lions Club hosts the annual Joe Brandon Memorial Fish Derby on the Bayfield River.  The BAA are proud supporters of this derby, which has been successful for over 35 years.

The Derby usually runs during the second weekend in October, starting 6 a.m on Friday until noon on Sunday.  At which time, prizes are awarded for the Top Three catches, each with cash awards. The Eric Earle Memorial will be awarded to a contestant age 15 years or under and consists of a cash award and a plaque. The Bill Thorpe Memorial will go to a person aged from 16-18 years and is also a cash prize and a plaque.
