Bayden Barber Whanau Family
I was born in Hastings and have lived here most of my life. My wife, Myra, is also Hawke's Bay born and bred and we have a large family. I love spending time with my kids and enjoy sport and outdoor activities, and I'm also active in my church.  

Work Record
My wife and I run a strategic business consultancy that specialises in health and resource management, and I previously worked for Hawke's Bay DHB. I am the Chair of Health Hawke's Bay and Te Pītau Health Alliance.  I am a member of the NZ Institute of Directors and was accepted onto it's Mentoring for Diversity Programme in 2019-2020.  

Council Experience
I was elected to Hastings District Council for the Hastings/ Havelock North ward in 2016 and was an elected member on the Council's Rural Community Board 2013-2016. I've  also been a member of the HDC Maori Joint Committee since 2012.  I am a certified RMA Commissioner and have sat on numerous Hearings Panels for the Hastings District Council.

Community Involvement
I have been involved in various community projects over the years, including the Waingongoro Stream re-diversion and riparian planting, Waimarama Marae Committee Chair, past organiser of Kai in the Bay, and judge for the Hawke's Bay Health Awards 2015 and 2017.

Sport
Representing the Tamatea Rugby Club premier team for over 10 years, I was humbled to receive the 2016 Supreme Award for dedication to the club. Through my kids local school in Waimarama, I also coach soccer and basketball. I have represented New Zealand in national and overseas bodyboarding championships.

Education
I attended the University of Waikato and obtained a Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) in Management and Maori Resource Management in 1998, and a further Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Management in 1999. I am fluent in Te Reo Maori and graduated from Te Panekiretanga o Te Reo, Māori Language School of Excellence in 2018.

Other Pursuits
I am a keen horseman, and we have a herd of Angus cattle that we manage on a 150 acre block in Waimārama. We also own and manage SeaEscape Waimārama Baches, a holiday accommodation venue.
