Ildar Batyrshin graduated from the Moscow Physical-Technical Institute (MIPT), Faculty of Control and Applied Mathematics. He received his PhD from the Moscow Power Engineering Institute (MPEI TU) and Dr.Sc. (Habilitation) from the Higher Attestation Committee of Russian Federation.
After finishing MIPT, he worked as a professor at the Department of Informatics and Applied Mathematics of Kazan State Technological University (currently National Research Technological University), Kazan, Russia, and served as the Department Head from 1997 to 2003. Since 1999, he was also a leading researcher of the Institute of Problems of Informatics of Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia.
In 2003, he joined the Research Program of Applied Mathematics and Computations of Mexican Petroleum Institute (IMP) as a Distinguished Invited Researcher and later as a leading researcher, head of project, and professor of postgraduate education. In 2014, he joined the Center for Computing Research (CIC) of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), Mexico, where he is currently a Titular Professor C.
He is a National Researcher Emeritus of Mexico and has the level 3 (highest) of the National System of Researchers (SNI) of Mexico. He is the Past President and Fellow of the Mexican Society for Artificial Intelligence (SMIA). He received First Place for the Best Research of Mexican Petroleum Institute in 2007 for developing a Fuzzy Expert System in Diagnostics of Oilfield Produced Water, SMART-Agua.
He is a Senior Member of IEEE CIS and SMC Societies. He served as a member of IEEE SMC Board of Governors (2021-2023), a member of the Management Committee of IEEE Transactions on Artificial Intelligence (IEEE TAI), and a member of the nomination committee of IEEE Lotfi A. Zadeh Award for Emerging Technologies. He was a PC Co-Chair of IEEE SMC 2023, Hawaii, USA, and Publicity Chair of IEEE SMC 2024, Kuching, Malaysia. He is the founder and adviser of the IEEE SMC Student Chapter in CIC-IPN, Mexico.
He is a member of the Board of Directors of the North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society (NAFIPS). He is a Fellow of the International Fuzzy Systems Association (IFSA) and served as a member of its Council. He was one of the founders and a Secretary of the Society of Mathematical Uncertainty (USA). He was one of the founders of the Soviet Association for Artificial Intelligence, the Soviet Association for Fuzzy Systems (RAFS), and the Russian Association for Fuzzy Systems and Soft Computing (RAFSSoftCom), and he was a Member of the Council, Vice President and President of these associations, respectively. He is a Fellow of RAFSSoftCom.
He is an Honorary Professor at Obuda University, Budapest, Hungary, and an Honorary Researcher of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. He received the State Research Fellowship of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences for Distinguished Researchers (1997-2003).
He served as an associate editor or a member of editorial boards of several scientific journals: IEEE TAI, Journal of Intelligent and Fuzzy Systems, Acta Polytechnica Hungarica, Computacion y Sistemas, Polibits, Computer Engineering and Applications (ComEngApp), Iskusstvennyi Intellekt y Prinyatije Resheniy, Programmnye Produkty i Sistemy, Nechetkie Sistemy i Myagkie Vychisleniya.
He was a Co-Chair of Program or Organizing Committees of more than 12 International Conferences on Fuzzy Systems and Soft Computing, Artificial Intelligence, Computational Intelligence, and Data Mining in USA, China, Brazil, Malaysia, Azerbaijan, Mexico, and Russia. He presented over 15 keynote speeches, plenaries, and invited talks, as well as tutorials on international conferences and workshops.
He was a co-author and co-editor of more than 33 books and special volumes of journals.
