Chain link fences are made from galvanized steel to prevent rust. Posts are installed into the ground, and then secured with concrete. Once the fence post is set, chain link meshing is unrolled and attached to each post. The height is determined by your intended usage. For security a higher fence can be installed, some even with barbed wire at the top. For pet containment a four-foot fence is often requested.

Aluminum has become a popular alternative to the costly iron fences that are usually used for security. Both metals are available in many home stores, but iron is expensive and heavy to work with during the installation process.

PVC fences are crafted from vinyl and are extremely durable. They never need painting or staining. PVC fences can be used for decoration or for privacy and are installed just like a wood fence only the panels are screwed into place rather than nailed.

Wood fences come in a variety of styles from picket to split rail. These tend to be used more for privacy from neighbors or to for a more pleasing look. Wood fences do need to be treated to ensure the wood does not rot over time. They are installed by driving the main post into the ground and then the wooden panels or rails are attached from one post to the next using hammers.
