Uday Nath Baruah was born on 24th September 1899 in Borhampur village, located in present-day Nagaon district of Assam. He came from a respected Kayastha family.

After marriage, he permanently settled in Silsakoo, North Guwahati, which later became the center of his social and political activities.
Uday Nath Baruah spent his childhood in Uzanbazar, Guwahati, where he studied at Cotton Collegiate School.
