Fireworks Ordinance

Fireworks Ordinance

The Bartlett Police Department is requesting the community’s assistance during the upcoming Fourth of July holiday.  Fireworks can be extremely dangerous and are illegal in the State of Illinois.  Bartlett Police are reminding everyone of the state law and village ordinance governing the use of illegal fireworks.  Per ordinance 8-6-1 Discharge of Fireworks Prohibited, “it shall be unlawful to store, discharge or set off any fireworks…”  According to 425 ILCS 35/2 Unlawful Possession, Sale, and Use of Fireworks, it is a Class A Misdemeanor for any person to knowingly possess, use, or explode any display fireworks, flame effects, or consumer fireworks…”

Residents are encouraged to contact the police if they observe anyone using large professional type fireworks or any illegal fireworks used in an unsafe manner.  Bartlett Police are also asking everyone to be safe this Independence Day and to comply with the state and village fireworks laws. Bartlett Police will be proactively enforcing fireworks laws this year.  Any individual using professional grade fireworks or any other fireworks in a dangerous manner towards other people or their property will be cited under village ordinance.  Anyone previously cited for “8-6-1 Discharge of Fireworks” could possibly be charged with a Class A Misdemeanor offense if they violate the same fireworks law again this year.
