Barrett's Oesophagus UK (BOUK) -

The main national site of the original Barrett's charity packed full of information about the condition linked to from the left navigation pane.

The Oesophageal and Gastric Cancer Patient Support Group (previously known as the Upper GI Support Group) was established with the help of the upper GI nurses at QEHB to provide a forum for patients to discuss any issues or problems they might be experiencing.

OG (Oesophageal Gastric) Cancer Project
is a charity based in the South East of England at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford and set up to benefit and support OG cancer and surgery patients, their family and friends pre, during and post treatment and to aid early awareness through research.

Oxfordshire Oesophageal and Stomach Organisation is a support charity for those affected by oesophageal or stomach cancers.


GOSH (Gastro-Oesophageal Support & Help)
group is based in Bristol for patients by patients.
It provides bi-monthly meetings on the last Tuesday of every other month between 7:00 and 9:00pm.
They also produce their own newsletter.


Humberside Oesohageal Support Group, based in Hull, HOSG are a small group made up of people who have experienced, or cared for someone with, oesophageal cancer, or Barrett's Oesophagus or similar oesophageal problems.

The Gutsy Group is a support group for people diagnosed with, or recovering from, oesophageal and gastric cancers. It has three branches covering Worcester, Gloucester and Wrexham /North Wales that tend to meet monthly.


Upper G.I. Blues is a patient and carer support group for people who have been diagnosed with upper gastro-intestinal cancers, based at Sandwell General Hospital, West Bromwich.


Wessex Cancer Trust exists to provide local support for people living with or affected by cancer, irrespective of their age.

In America, ECAN (the Esophageal Cancer Action Network)'s 
mission is to save lives by increasing awareness about the link between Heartburn and Cancer, promoting early detection, supporting medical innovation to prevent, detect, treat and cure Esophageal Cancer and link patients and families to compassionate support. This national non-profit organization, based in Baltimore, is led by a board of directors of top physicians, business leaders, and families that have been touched by Esophageal Cancer. 

Also in America, ECAA (Esophageal Cancer Awareness Association) offers easy-to-read information on Esophageal Cancer (EC) – descriptions of the disease, its diagnosis, staging, treatments, and other factors.  Our goal is to create a community of survivors, patients and caregivers that together can provide support and information while also increasing awareness of the disease
In Ireland, the Oesophageal Cancer Fund raises awareness and funds research, holding a "Lollipop Day" annually.

On-line forums / groups

The Barrett's forum (BarrettsForum.org.uk, linked to from our FORUM tab at the top of the page) is the only on-line forum specifically for those with Barret's Oesophagus and associated conditions.

OPA has a forum hosted by HealthUnlocked, here, that is aimed primarily at oesophageal cancer patients.

Patient.info have a number of forums including some dedicated to aspects of reflux and acid.

US based forums:

MD Junction hosts many forums including the following: Barrett's Esophagus, GERD and Esophageal Cancer

Amongst forums hosted by Health Central, there is one for Acid Reflux.

eHealthForums also has a forum for Acid Reflux.

MedHelp has an "Expert Forum" for GERD.

Johns Hopkins pathology also host a Barrett's Esophagus Discussion Board here.

You will find sites selling what they claim to be cures for acid reflux that are probably not worth wasting money on.
