press run samples
press run samples
posting some samples from the press run for the book that will be out shortly. Dallas Iconography is a small collection of images that will be a coffee-table style book--that's the hope anyway. We'll see how it turns out. The sheets are taped up to the glass of a piece of artwork just to photograph them. Sheets are printed on both sides, and is 80# gloss stock, so there's no appreciable shadowing of images or text from the other side. Sheet size before trimming is 23.5" x 35.5" Finished book size will be 9 x 11.5" or so for the hardcover. The book is 64 pages divided into four "signatures" of 16 pages each. Any of you that have done page layout will recognize that the first page is next to the last page within each signature. The larger sheets are folded so that the page layout when the book is put together will be consecutive--the process is called "imposition." The folded sheets cannot be viewed just yet, not until the four signatures are stitched together and then guillotined at the bleed marks. After that, the hardbound covers are attached and the book is ready NB: Flickrbots: I'm not really selling anything here, just documenting the progress.
katy's favorite things
katy's favorite things
i love things that have called out to be kept. In the center of this picture are "The Fighting Cocks", a sculpture my father's parent's had on their coffee table for eons. Above it is the bull they also had forever. It even has iron balls. Strong like bull. There are two skulls, a deer jaw bone, antlers, a shark's wide open jaw, and a deer's hip bone. Top shelf, there is a mailbox plate that says "Letters", gotten in a Cold Spring, NY junk shop. Middle shelf, there is a giant bolt from a railroad in Denver, CO. Next to that, there are giant scissors from a junk shop near Lake George, NY. Next to that, there are two "little people", toy mothers in blue, that I've kept since childhood. On the right hand side, some Transformers from my brother's childhood, a panther that folds to become a cassette tape. A little army man from a friend in Colorado. There is a Jerry Vale 8 Track from my grandparent's collection. There is a small edition of Milton's Paradise Lost printed so small one cannot read it, but it is 1/2" thick and falling apart and amazing. These are the things I keep.
