Goodbye, Old Friends…
Goodbye, Old Friends…
On Saturday, October 27th, I found myself down at the Mountain Equipment Co-op, in Toronto, purchasing a new pair of Zamberlan Trek Lite 2 GT backpacking boots. Normally, I greet every trip to the MEC with the same sense giddiness as a kid on a trip to the toy store. Each major purchase; each new addition to my collection; has heralded a new endeavour or a new adventure. I’d rather not think of the obscene amounts of money I’ve spent there over the years; it would quite possibly make me ill. But I wasn’t giddy on this trip. I was actually approaching this purchase with a slight sense of trepidation and a little sadness. You see, buying that new pair of boots meant that I finally had to put my old boots out to pasture. Back in early 2001, I was on the market for a new pair of hiking boots. Prior to this, I was going through day-hikers to the tune of about a pair a year. I’d tried all different brands and makes but, inevitably, after a year of pounding trail, concrete and the snow and salt of Canadian winters, the Merrells, Hi-Tecs or La Sportivas would succumb to cracked leather, worn water-proof linings or detached soles. After years of this routine, I figured it was par for the course. Around this time, I was also getting into more serious backpacking endeavours and the planning multi-day trips along the Bruce Trail. So, after doing a little research, I found myself at the MEC zeroing in on the backpacking boots rather than the day-hikers I was accustomed to. After trying on a few models of Zamberlans and Scarpas, I settled on a pair of the Zamberlans. They were over twice as much as I usually spent on a pair of boots, and a pretty nice chunk of change given my salary at the time. But they seemed like a real investment. They proved to be a good one. Those boots lasted with me for over six-and-a-half years. I’ve estimated that they’ve carried me over ten-thousand kilometers. They got me through a hundred kilometers of the Bruce Trail in three days with close to fifty pounds on my back. And too many camping trips to count. They lasted through three winters of winter camping and snowshoeing before I got a clue and purchased dedicated winter boots. They walked me over parts of four continents. They got me through the four days of the Inka Trail to Machu Picchu, and then climbed me up that damn mountain behind it when all I wanted to do was collapse. They were my go-to footwear when I anticipated large amounts of time on my feet – over eight hours at Nuits Blanches in 2006 and 2007 and the yearly marathon city walks since 2002. But they’re finally past their time. The grips on the soles are just about gone; I say ‘just about’ since I hadn’t broken through to the air pockets in the rubber, but I figure with another hundred or so kilometers and I would have. The leather and the lining are still perfectly serviceable, which also means that this is the first pair of boots I’ve ever replaced before suffering a complete structural breakdown. This is absolutely amazing to me after six-and-a-half years of pounding these things into the ground. These were the first real trekking boots, and unequivocally the best footwear, I’d ever owned. I’m breaking in the new boots. But I still miss the old ones.

Dr Glenn Losack MD, Benn Bell Anthony Posey Fred Miller Bernie Aguiar and Jeff Lamb.. There are others mind you but these few changed the quality and the quantity of my life , they prolonged my dead beat deadpan life with encouragements from time to time they were always there like Sukhi Hontu.. And all of them are now part of Marziya Shakir.. and Marziya unlike me reaches out to more people her Mother hates her pictures her life as it exists on the net and in spite of her strictures her plea I have allowed Marziya to touch people change their lives too like she changed my life.. Marziya is lucky Destinys Child she gets friends calling her from Den Mark, Dubai , America and other countries , and she will say Hello and rush to play with her toys.. So once again on my 7 roza , fast I pray for all of you , and treasure your love , specially my Facebook + friends time for me get my ass off the computer and get back to work and a humble request from a friend not to use F words and other cuss words I respect him far too much so I shall adhere notwithstanding , and try to comply , but sometimes to awaken the dead soul of our civic forefathers the system it is necessary to use F words because sweet simple language they dont understand.. yes potholes bad roads garbage dumps staring in the face , and loot they made from crooked contractors stares at us all in the face too, each time I shoot a beggar his hands held out.. And even Kings that rule us dont know that while they were awake their own cronies were looting the nation left right center , they got caught thanks to the Media and other activists agencies ..if not.. as the DNA head lines says "Corruption unlimited Rs 2342 cr lost on CWG.." And it is not them but us who created them by inking our finger and selling out voting the wrong there by lies a tale..
