making life easier
making life easier
My golden rules for organizing: 1.must have easy access 2.leave some room to grow (edit + add) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I'm very assertive when it comes to organizing, so here it goes (especially for people who landed here from other websites...) If we had a separate office I would've done it little differently with less boxes. However, this is where we pay bills, read and play computers, not to "study" or "work" so stacked boxes don't bother us, and I'm certainly not gonna spend $30 or more for Expedit drawers because I consider living in this apartment a temporary and do not want to spend too much money for something I might or might not use if we get to "own" our place in the future. I know I'll use the boxes no matter where I go. The boxes on top mostly hold statements, important documents we don't need to access every day. They are all labeled so if my hubby needs a car insurance statement he can go right into "auto" box. I go through those boxes a couple of times a year to shred old papers to make room for new papers so I never run out of room. Because we live in a small space, editing is critical. If I see something overflowing on this shelf I edit and then add. If we have kids in the future and need more books and toys I'll re-structure the whole thing. Also if you look at the pictures of our entire apartment you can see how neutral it is. I love neutral palette and I don't really like "splash" of color. I especially keep this bookcase very neutral because it's right in the dining room I wanted it to blend in with our white walls to look like a built-in. I also try to use natural materials for storage if they can be seen but I use lots of clear plastic boxes for storage in the closets etc. Bottom line, this bookcase serves us very very well.
Fireball XL5 Bagatelle
Fireball XL5 Bagatelle
I sold this bagatelle to a private collector. It belonged to Alison when she was a child. It was a delightful toy, built to last and in very good condition. Toys and other objects that evoke nostalgia appear to be highly esteemed and sought after. My take on this is that many people hark back with longing for the time of their childhood. For them, those days - imagined or real - are synonymous with a stress-free existence and a kind of innocence and freedom. To rekindle those old feelings is a way of buffering against the harshness of the world that we exist in right now. In reality our memories of childhood can be selective and for some, childhood was miserable, even horrific. However, we all long for peace and security and maybe our early years, when we were care free, somehow connect us to a sense of peace and contentment that is otherwise very elusive. Objects (like photographs) act as a link to better times and can evoke pleasant and comforting memories. Another and more important reality is that we are living in critical times hard to deal with (as foretold in 2 Timothy 3:1). The majority who read that Bible verse agree with the statements that follow in 2 Timothy 3:2-4. Their own observations and experience provide compelling evidence of the decline in social and moral values that they have witnessed for themselves, in their own life time. According to Bible prophecy it appears that the World situation in our time will continue to deteriorate until something very radical takes place, in the near future. What do you think? :)
