Recently piloted in the Southway/Whitleigh area this is a seven week, after-school programme of creative workshops specifically for teachers and TAs in primary and special schools. Devised by experienced artist Jo Tyler, Art School gives participants artistic confidence and new skills that can be directly applied in the classroom, using cheap, easily obtainable materials. Art School can cater for up to 12 participants and we recommend it as a joint venture between a small cluster of 3-4 schools. Packages start from £1,400 (equivalent to £16.67 per person per session) and include materials, but costs can be reduced if schools source their own.

‘We not only learned how to do various art techniques but were able to interact with staff from other schools.

I was inspired to try out some of the activities with children.’

TA from Beechwood Primary School.

‘An inspirational course that I hope to take into the classroom in the future’.

TA from Beechwood Primary School.

‘The aim now is for the TAs to cascade the skills to the teaching staff and children.  The course was well organised, Jo worked hard to ensure that everyone had a successful experience and the outcomes were impressive. Thank you, we will be signing up for ‘Art School’ again this year!’

Lisa Reburn – Head of School, Beechwood Primary.
