Bards in a Box

Bards in a Box is the mobile troupe and the public face of the Bards of Birmingham.

We call them the "Bards in a Box" because they carry all of their props and costume pieces around with them in one easily-carried box!

Our actors roam the streets at faires and festivals asking patrons at the event if they would like so see a scene performed from any play drawn from their box.  They perform billiantly and receive much applause and often tips.  The Bards then give out informational flyers about the organization and any upcoming main stage performances.

Want to hear a scene from any one of Shakespeare's plays (even the obscure ones)? No problem.

Want to see all of Shakespeare's tragedies performed in one (hilarious) 30-minute skit? We've got you covered.

The Bards in a Box are available to perform at any event, public or private, and even the youngest actors are ready to go at a moment's notice. They've already performed at numerous events, including:

  • The Alabama Renaissance Faire 2011 and 2012

  • Eastlake's Purple House Parade
  • Creative Montessori School's book fair
  • Eastlake Farmer's Market
  • Art on R' Mountain
  • Magic City Arts Connection
  • Bards of Birmingham's Masquerade Ball Fundraiser

If you would like to have the Bards in a Box at your event, please contact the Bards of Birmingham at

These teams of young actors have memorized over 30 scenes from the tragedies and comedies of William Shakespeare.  These actors range in age from 8 to 15 and rehearse regularly to stay in practice for Renaissance faires, festivals, feasts and any other scheduled events.

Main Stage performers for Magic City Art Connection

The Bards in a Box's most recent endeavor was Magic City Arts Connection, in Downtown Birmingham the weekend of April 28-29, 2012. Roughly 25,000 people attend this festival annually. The Senior Bards in a Box performed a hilarious abridged version of Shakespeare's "Twelfth Night," while the Junior Bards in a Box wandered throughout the park conducting street performances.

The Bards in a Box represented the Bards of Birmingham flawlessly at the 2011 Renaissance Faire in Florence, Alabama.  View a slide show of pictures or click the view all button to see the photos from this fun event.
