Pt. Pannalal Ghosh

Since time immemorial, the flute has been a musical instrument which has enchanted mankind, with its magical sound.

The flute tells its legacy right from Lord Krishna. But till about the middle of the 20th century it was only considered as a minor instrument not fit for usage on the Indian classical music platform, neither did it enjoy the popularity of today.

            Pt Pannalal Ghosh

It was only due to Pt. Pannalal Ghosh’s efforts and research which helped the flute gain its current form.
Pt. Pannalal Ghosh redesigned the simple bamboo flute, increased its length to improve the tonal quality and timbre and through continuous efforts, showed that Indian classical music can be played on the flute with the same dexterity and in the same sacrosanct manner as expected by purists.
