Being the eastern most country in South Asia Bangladesh is the bridge between South Asia and South East Asia. It is the largest delta in the world with an intricate network of more than 230 rivers, canals and tributaries that crisscross the length and breadth of the country. This fascinating country has much to offer to the tourists, historians, explorers, and the business community as it marches ahead to achieve the goals enshrined in its constitution.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Jakarta has been working with the Government of the Republic of Indonesia in enhancing bilateral relation between our two countries that was established in 1972. The people of Bangladesh and Indonesia are tied with historic bonds of friendship and common emphaty. Strong cultural heritage and similar values, quest for socio economic development, aspiration for a just international order and social justice make the two countries natural friends. In pursuance of the Look East policy of the Bangladesh Government new initiatives have been taken by this Embassy to strengthen relations with Indonesia in recent years. President Megawati Soekarnoputri’s state visit to Bangladesh in June 2003 and a return official visit by the then Prime Minister of Bangladesh to Indonesia in January 2004 have ushered in a new era of good will and cooperation between our two countries. During the two highest level visits eight important agreements and memorandum of understandings have been signed which has provided the platform for strong, meaningful and vibrant cooperation and partnership between our two countries. Volume of trade has increased three folds and visits by dignitaries, delegations, business people and tourists have more than doubled in the past few years. The services that this Embassy provides to all these different categories of visitors can be found in the consular pages.

I hope this website will be valuable to all visitors including the expatriate Bangladesh community in Indonesia. We look forward to your visit to our website.
