Early Life
Matthew Huh was born on December 27, 2000 in Park Ridge, IL. From an early age, Huh had an interest in film, specifically animation and Disney. He would make short, stop motion animations with Legos and film anything with a Flip camera. In 2009, Huh discovered YouTube. Although he was never allowed to create an account, he loved watching reviews. He has stated his biggest influences for reviews include Doug Walker's "Nostalgia Critic," James Rolfe's movie reviews on, and Jonathan Paula's "Movie Night."

In August of 2015, Huh created an Instagram account. (
He always said he wanted to do something different on social media aside from selfies and pictures. For many years, Huh wanted to share his thoughts on movies, but had no way to do so.

His first review was of Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, which was uploaded on August 17, 2015, which was also the beginning of Season 1.

In October 2015, Huh reached 100 followers.

From January 10, 2016 to March 12, 2016, Huh took a brief hiatus on reviews due to scheduling and thoughts of stopping due to interest. But on March 12, 2016, the reviews started again with the original Zootopia review.

On March 25, 2016, the reviews took a drastic change. The reviews became more developed and in-depth on thoughts of the film instead of very brief thoughts. The first movie review in this format was the theatrical version of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

It was created to coincide with VHHS' Disney homecoming and for Huh's long desire to make a list about Disney films. Huh stated that the development of the series began in July 2016 and was delayed numerous times. It was originally stated to begin in August 2016, but later changed to early September 2016. Huh planned the series to begin on October 1, 2016, but was later changed to late September. Top 20 Favorite Disney Movies started on September 29, 2016 and ended on October 18, 2016. Huh has stated that this was his most complex and ambitious review series to date, but stating it was the most fun to do.

On November 3, 2016, Huh created a Snapchat account after many years of people telling him to make one. Many of the stories are on movies watched and plan to review.

In December 2016, Huh's reviews began appearing on John Bilkey's Bangaroo Database.

Season 3 began on January 2, 2017 with the review of La La Land.

Starting with the King Kong review on March 8, 2017, Huh changed the rating system from a 1 to 10 scale to a four star rating system similar to most movie critics. This was originally planned to replace the 1 out of 10 rating system, but was later changed with the original system in the King Kong Remake review due to viewers liking the original system.

On March 21, 2017, Huh reached 300 followers.

On April 24, 2017, Huh started a new series exclusive to Snapchat called Recent Film Watches. The series featured new entries each Monday which lists the films he has watched that week and what ratings he gives it. The series ended in September 2017.

Season 3 ended on December 31, 2017, with Top 10 Movies of 2017.

Season 4 began on January 2, 2018 with Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2018.

In October 2018, Huh was accepted into University of Iowa to study film. It was not made public, and was only known by family and close friends.

On November 4, 2018, a special, one-off review of Backlight's fall musical, Hello, Dolly was released. It was created upon request of many audience members. The review received high praise from both readers and members of the musical. At the time, it was the most popular review on the account until Top 20 Movies of 2018.

In December 2018, Huh entered negotiations to partner with InConsequential to release reviews on the platform. This was confirmed and was scheduled to be released in January 2019. He did state that reviews would continue to be hosted on both Instagram and Bangaroo. You can find his posts on InConsequential at

On February 18, 2019, Huh officially announced his commitment to University of Iowa.

Following the success of the Hello, Dolly review, Huh reviewed Backlight's spring play, The Old Man and the Old Moon. Much like Hello, Dolly, the review received unanimous praise by both readers and those a part of the production, praising the support, kind words, and the appreciating all the work that went into it. Huh has stated that the review is one of his favorites he's ever done. Huh later called the production the best student show he had ever seen, following a one night performance of the show in August 2019 for the all state competition, TheatreFest He also stated that the production deserves to be selected as part of Illinois' TheatreFest.

On July 8, 2019, Huh's first review of a TV series/season was released with Stranger Things: Season 3.

On July 19, 2019, the 200th movie review was released with The Lion King (2019).

Cancelled/Abandoned Reviews and Series

Huh originally planned to review Juno, but it was cancelled for unknown reasons

Huh originally planned to post a review of Little Shop of Horrors in time for Halloween 2016. It was abandoned due to time constraints.

Huh stated in his brief Stranger Things post that he would do a review series the entire first season. It was cancelled because Huh stated that the project was deemed to complex and ambitious. Another reason is worrying that he would spoil most of the season for those who wanted to watch it.

Huh originally planned to review Disney's A Christmas Carol as part of his Christmas 2016 review series. It was cancelled in favor of Huh reviewing Elf.

Huh's original idea for Top 10 Favorite Movies of 2016 was to do separate reviews of each film spread out over 10 days, much like his earliest Countdowns. It was cancelled due to time constraints.

Following the success of the Hello, Dolly review, Huh hinted that a review of Backlight's Winter Play, The Complete History of America (Abridged) would be released shortly afterwards. Ultimately, it was cancelled due to Huh's limited enthusiasm and disappointment over the production. As a member of Backlight, he did not want to burn bridges with the company, and out of respect for everyone involved in the show, since he knew they spent a lot of time and effort to perform the production.

Future Plans

Huh has stated that he has various plans for review series in 2017 (these are not official). Plans include review series for all the Spider-Man movies to coincide with the release of Spider-Man: Homecoming, reviewing all Despicable Me movies to coincide with Despicable Me 3, reviewing all Cars movies to coincide with Cars 3, and reviewing all the Superman and Batman movies to coincide with Justice League.

Huh has stated that he plans to review all of the movies nominated for Best Picture at the 89th Academy Awards.

Huh has stated that his most difficult reviews to write were the Rogue One and La La Land reviews because of limited space and trying to write a review without spoiling the endings.

Huh said that he has a list of films he's always wanted to review for the account. Films include Back to the Future, Rocky, Spirited Away, Finding Nemo, Star Wars, Beauty and the Beast, The Dark Knight, Mary Poppins, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Jurassic Park, The Lego Movie, The Truman Show, Home Alone, Forrest Gump, and Big Hero 6. He has reviewed some of these films, and others he hasn't but plans to.
