The Banffshire Field Club has an archive of printed lectures given since its foundation in 1880 until the practise ceased in 1939. These papers, or 'Transactions', record the business at each meeting along with a lecture given by an invited expert. They were printed in booklet form by the Banffshire Journal for issue to the members over the above period. These publications are slightly smaller than A5 and use a rather small type size of 7pt. The subjects cover all aspects of interest relating to Banffshire, covering archaelogy, astronomy, biology, botany, excursions/field trips, geology, geography, nature, science and social history.
Click on publications for a list of the Transaction titles and their availability - see also notes below.
Other papers and published items of local interest are held by the Transactions Secretary but are not available for sale as there is usually only one copy. They are however available on loan to Field Club members.
Please note the following when consulting the list of Transactions on the 'Publications' page:
TRANSACTIONS IN STOCK:
Individual papers on various subjects were usually printed and stapled together in sets, resulting in a number of subjects having the same reference number. Regardless of the subject required, you would receive the complete set of originals as they are not easily divisible, so please ignore the suffix number '-1', '-2', etc.
TRANSACTIONS OUT OF STOCK:
'Digitised' Transactions are re-printed on A5 pages with a 10-11pt font size and are easier to read than the 7pt originals. Unless shown as already digitised and thus available immediately for re-printing, they will be supplied as soon as possible. The process is time-consuming, especially with the proof reading of the resulting text and is carried out by volunteers. While every effort is made to correct any errors produced by the 'OCR' conversion process, the Field Club cannot guarantee the accuracy of the re-issue, or indeed of the original Transaction.
