(2) Introduced Species

Many non-Thai bamboo species have been introduced into Thailand long time ago, and in recent years. A first batch of useful Chinese bamboos was introduced from Taiwan by W. T. Lin in the 1960s. Many of these introductions can still be found in cultivation mainly in the North of Thailand. There were some bamboos from neighboring countries apparently introduced into Thailand where they are found in cultivation, mainly from southern China, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia and Indonesia. Some ornamental bamboos were also introduced into Thailand, like Bambusa lako and Bambusa glaucophylla, and are planted in gardens throughout Thailand nowadays.

Unidentified species are also included herein, if they were introduced. If species of early introductions have become naturalized, then they are not listed herein but in the first chapter.
